Lady Bulldogs pick up '23 homecoming win over Buffs on Friday

The Haxtun Lady Bulldogs have won five of their last seven games and currently hold an over 12-6 record. Most recently, the Lady Bulldogs swept Caliche at home in the annual homecoming game. Five regular-season game remain on the schedule before the team kicks off post season play.
Friday night marked 2023 homecoming celebrations in Haxtun. The evening kicked off with a c-team scrimmage against the junior varsity followed by a varsity contest against Caliche. For the second time this season, Haxtun came out on top in three quick sets; this time easily handed, 25-10, 25-19 and 25-10.
Three Lady Bulldogs led at the net, each with seven kills including Julia Freeman, Bobbi Starkebaum and Maggie Kilgour. Cassidy Goddard and Jayleigh Bullard each registered six kills. Starkebaum made a statement in her time at the net on defense, registering a team high of seven blocks. Bullard and Kilgour each had two and Goddard and Megan Walker each added one.
As a team, the Lady Bulldogs served 93.3 percent on Friday. Lilly Lemesany and Goddard each served 100 percent on the night. Lemesany led with six aces. Freeman registered three.
Setters Megan Walker and Kelsie Hadeen combined for 23 assists on the night. Walker led with 15, Hadeen added eight.
In the back row, Goddard and Walker each registered 10 digs, totaling half of the teams digs on Friday. On serve receive, Freeman and Goddard each tallied 13 passes.
This week's action pits the Lady Bulldogs against Kimball, Neb. at the home of the Lady Longhorns on Thursday. According to MaxPreps, Kimball holds a 3-18 record.
Next week, Haxtun is set to host Otis on Tuesday and travel to face off against Sedgwick County on Friday.
