Lady Wildcats go 2-1 over past week

Fleming's Lady Wildcats went 2-1 in action on the court last week. The Lady Wildcats fell to Sedgwick County to open the week, then took wins over Prairie and Holyoke.

Last Thursday's match in Fleming with the Sedg. Co. Lady Cougars went the distance in five close sets. Sedg. Co. took set one in extra points, 26-24, and earned set two with a 25-23 victory. The Lady Wildcats answered back with wins in sets three and four, 25-20 and 25-23 to tie the match at 2-2. The Lady Cougars finished strong earning the match win with a 15-11 fifth set victory.

Sophomore hitters Ashley Bornhoft and Ciana Lousberg put up top numbers for the Lady Wildcat offense at the net. Bornhoft led the team in kills with 17; Lousberg followed with 15.

Senior MadiKay Serrato led from behind the serving line with three aces. Lousberg and freshman Hayley Chamberlain followed with two aces apiece. According to stats available on MaxPreps, Lousberg and Serrato own the number one and number three spots in total aces in the league with 54 and 32 on the year, respectively.


Sophomore libero Brooke Schaefer led defensively from the back row with 28 digs. She also added top numbers on serve-receive with 20 passes.

Sophomore Siena Donnelson put up the team-high on serve-receive with 20 passes.

On Friday night, the Lady Wildcats hosted the Prairie Lady Mustangs. The home team took a 3-1 victory that night. On Tuesday, Oct. 17, Fleming traveled to Holyoke where they earned a 3-1 win over the Lady Dragons. Individual stats for the two most recent matches were not available on MaxPreps as of press time.


In addition to league leaders in the ace column, the Lady Wildcat squad holds top-five spots in several other categories. Bornhoft sits in fourth in hitting and kills with 158 kills on the year. She also holds the number two spot in blocks with 58 total. Schaefer and Serrato are third and fifth in the league in digs with 219 and 148, respectively.

Fleming is set to host top-ranked Briggsdale on Friday night with matches beginning at 4 p.m. They'll play Saturday at home against Caliche starting at 11 a.m. and close the week on Thursday, Oct. 26 at Merino beginning at 4 p.m.
