Nov. 2, 1938

A baby girl was born Thursday (Oct. 27, 1938) to Mr. and Mrs. Philip Reitz of Sedgwick. The mother and baby are at the Mooney Hospital here.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hoschouer are the parents of a baby boy, born last week at their home.

Fred M. Swisher, Democratic candidate for state senator, is seeking office for the first time in next Tuesday is general election from the 12th senatorial district, comprising the counties of Phillips, Sedgwick and Logan.

Vote for Mrs. Margaret M. Montgomery for a county clerk and recorder.

Ad: Leslie E. Taylor, candidate for state representative for the counties of Phillips and Sedgwick, opposed to nuisance taxes or excise taxes of all kinds.

Dailey News - Those who helped Mrs. Dale Kennedy celebrate her birthday anniversary Wednesday evening were H. L. Lucke, Gordon McIntyre, Mr. and Mrs. Siebert Olson, Mrs. E.L. Schroeder, Dale Kennedy and Gary, and Misses Arline and June McIntyre. Other callers in the evening were Ed Kennedy and Jack and Arnold of Fleming.

Fairfield News - Laura Lou Lindgren spent Saturday with her cousin, Donna Dell Lindgren.

Nov. 4, 1953

Harry M. Sayre of Alliance, Neb., has been named station agent at Haxtun by the Burlington Railroad to replace G.B. Hire, who retired after 33 years as agent. He has been a dispatcher at Alliance for the past five years and was the agent in Paoli during the late 1930s.

Dr. Robert Ralston, physician and surgeon of Lewellen, Neb., will set up his practice in Haxtun beginning next Tuesday. His office will be downstairs in the hospital building.

Death: Mrs. Mary Anna Wood, age 59 years, five months, and 29 days, Oct. 29.

Two Yuma high school juniors lost their lives Tuesday and another was seriously hurt when their car and a freight train collided at the crossing in Yuma. Killed were D.V. Ogle, 16, son of Mrs. Nita Williams, and Arlene Blach, also 16, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Blach. Joseph Newland, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Newland, was taken to the hospital with a skull fracture.

Nov. 2, 1978

Tony Wernsman shows off the picture he drew that earned him artist of the month honors at Haxtun High School. He is a member of the art class taught by Val Gillotte.

First birthdays: Crystal Gay Dee, Nov. 13, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Barry Dee; Jonathan Richard Hinde, Oct. 25, son of Dave and Lana Hinde.

Engagement: Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Schropfer Haxtun, announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Betty to Tom Odell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Perk Odell of Akron.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Eckman were treated to dinner at a café to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary on Oct. 25 by Mr. and Mrs. Winston Ham, Kenny and Sandy, and Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Eckman, Robbie, Rusty and Alan. Doug and Don Ham were away to college and unable to attend. They were joined later by Mr. and Mrs. Verner Ham, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Byrkit and Mrs. Dorothy Ruch.

Births: Mr. and Mrs. Rudy de la Rambelje, a son, Ryan Anthony, Oct. 25.

National tractor pull winners, pictured: Craig Smith and Heather Lightsey placed second in their divisions in the national tractor pull held Sept. 25 in Omaha, Neb. Craig pulled 320 pounds for 26'5" and is the son of Steve and Jodi Smith. Heather pulled 45'10" and is the daughter of Brad and Kelli Lightsey.

Local merchants costumed for Friday's contest: Nancy Olson, owner of Country Cuts; Jennifer Peterson, a nurse's aide at Haxtun Hospital; and Shawna Elwood, Smith Hardware employee.

Haxtun head volleyball coach Rich Sumpter has been chosen to coach the 2A All-State volleyball team at the Colorado Coaches of Girls' Sports games Nov. 21.

Extended Care Unit residents and their family members were treated to a western dinner and entertainment Oct. 22 at the Haxtun Hospital District. Boots in Motion from Sterling provided entertainment during the celebration.

There were moments of greatness from the Lady Bulldogs during the first round of district volleyball action last week, but in the end, the team fell short in contests against Akron and Wiggins ultimately ending the team's season. Haxtun finished at 3-16 on the year.

Fleming's Lady Wildcats went 3-0, in the district championship on Saturday after going 2-0 in the first round of districts to get there.

The Fleming Wildcat season ended on Saturday in cross divisional play. The Wildcats traveled to take on the Hi-Plains Patriots from Siebert and Vona. The two teams met a couple times last year in football and basketball. Fleming took the advantage each time. This year, the Patriots returned the favor.
