Bulldogs earn All-Conference following Championship appearance

Eight members of the Haxtun Bulldog football team earned All-Conference accolades for their performances throughout the 2023 season. The Bulldogs went 11-2 this season, finishing with an 8-man State Runner-Up title on Nov. 24.

Seniors Brock Miller, Kailin Kelley and Keegan Colglazier along with juniors Grant Statz and Ryland Wolff received All-Conference designation. Seniors Kaiden Schelling and Mason Bornhoft and sophomore Zach Statz were named All-Conference, Honorable Mention. Post-season honors are decided by vote of head coaches from each team's respective league.

In his senior season, Miller, Bulldog center, registered three solo and eight assisted tackles for a total of 11. He also scored one five-yard touchdown in a match up with Fleming this season. In a contest with Caliche, he got the call for a two-point conversion giving him a total of eight points in 2023. He played in a total of 12 game, racking up nearly 500 snaps.

In his four years with the Bulldogs, Miller played in 35 games earning three solo and nine assisted tackles for a total of 12. He also registered one fumble recovery.

Senior running back and middle linebacker Kelley, rushed for a total of 630 yards this season. He averaged six yards per carry and totaled six rushing touchdowns this season. On the other side of the ball, he contributed to 45 assisted tackles and registered 82 on his own for 127.

Throughout his time on the field as a Bulldog, Kelley racked up 2,004 yards on the ground and 302 yards from the air. He added 139 solo tackles and 274 assisted for a total of 413 in four years. Kelley also tallied four sacks on opponent quarterbacks in the 42 contests he played in.

Tight end and defensive end Colglazier caught 24 passes in his senior season, registering a total of 618 yards. He averaged 25.8 yards per catch and scored 11 touchdowns for the Bulldogs. Defensively, he tallied 87 total tackles, 24 solo and 63 assisted. Colglazier also had three sacks this season.

In his four years on the field as a Bulldog, Colglazier racked up 231 tackles, 58 of those solo. He had five sacks, seven interceptions, 811 yards in the air and 14 touchdowns.

Junior quarterback Wolff completed 57 passes for a total of 1,231 yards and 19 touchdowns. On the ground, he racked up 1,187 yards from 108 carries and 20 touchdowns. On defense, he totaled 80 tackles, 43 solo and 37 assisted. Wolff also registered two sacks this season.

Statz, a junior running back, carried the ball 70 times for 829 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also caught five passes for 170 yards and three touchdowns in the air. On the other side of the ball, he tallied 42 solo tackles and 51 assisted for 93 this season. Statz earned a total of 10 sacks on opponent quarterbacks.

Senior Bornhoft, a tight end and defensive end, caught 11 passes his senior season for a total of 271 yards. He scored two touchdowns while registering 24.6 yards per pass. On defense, Bornhoft tallied 44 total tackles, 10 solo and 34 assisted.

Throughout his time in a Bulldog jersey, he racked up a total of 271 yards on offense and 92 total tackles and four sacks on defense.

Wide receiver and corner back Schelling caught six passes for 140 yards and one touchdown in 2023. He also carried the ball four times for 67 yards and one touchdown on the ground. As a stand in quarterback, he completed two of four passes for 34 yards and one Bulldog touchdown. On the other side of the ball, he earned 28 solo tackles and assisted with 35 for a total of 63. He also registered one sack on Merino's quarterback.

In his four seasons with the Bulldogs, Schelling carried the ball for 131 yards and two touchdown while snatching 35 catches in the air for a total of 204 yards and one touchdown. He tallied 137 total tackles in his time as a Bulldog.

In his sophomore season, running back and wide receiver Zach Statz carried the ball 53 times for a total of 530 yards and four touchdowns. In the air he caught four passes for 81 yards and a single touchdown. Defensively, Statz totaled 91 tackles, 41 solo and 50 assisted.
