Wildcats open with home & road games

The 2023-24 basketball season opened for the Fleming Lady Wildcats and the Fleming Wildcats last week with a home contest against Haxtun. The boys' team traveled to Westminster for a contest with Belleview Christian. Both the girls' and boys' teams are playing under the head coaching efforts of Randy Kirkwood this year.

The Lady Wildcats opener at home last Friday brought victory over the Haxtun Lady Bulldogs. Fleming went up by 10 in the first half and cruised to a 47-32 win by the final horn.

A Saturday contest at Belleview Christian was originally scheduled, but due to lack of players on the Lady Bruins' team, the game was cancelled.

The Wildcat boys' team also hosted a season opener against Haxtun on Friday night. Fleming fell in that contest 62-25.

Scores by quarter and individual stats for the contest were not reported as of press time.

On Saturday, against the Belleview Christian Bruins, the Wildcats trailed by 21 after the first quarter and by 37 at the half. They would go on to lose the contest 78-28.

Individual stats for the game were not reported.

According to the schedule on the Fleming Booster Club Facebook page, the next game on Fleming's agenda brings the Caliche Buffaloes to the Wildcats' home court on Friday, Dec. 8. Junior varsity boys are set to take the court at 5 p.m. that day with varsity girls' and varsity boys' action to follow.
