A successful rabbit hunt was held in the area north of Haxtun Tuesday, with an estimated 300 to 350 hunters taking part. In the final checkup, 990 jackrabbits were turned in by hunters.

A head-on auto collision in Arizona Sunday afternoon caused serious injury to Delbert Hire, former Haxtun young man now living in Denver. Mr. and Mrs. G.B. Hire received word that their son was hospitalized at Flagstaff, Ariz. His wife is ill in a Denver hospital following a major operation last week and was not told of her husband's condition. He is a traveling salesman for a drug company.

Examinations for motor vehicle drivers' and chauffeurs' licenses will be more difficult this year than they have been in the past. The list of test questions are said to require some study before they can be answered correctly.

Midway News - Chase Meakins and Earl Atkins attended a stock sale in Sterling Wednesday.

Paoli News - Mr. and Mrs. Austin Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Miller and Patty, and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Critchlow spent Sunday evening at the Verne Miller home.

Hospital news: Mr. and Mrs. Ora Kinzie of Fleming are the parents of a baby girl born Jan. 10. She was named Cynthia Beth.

Haxtun Volunteer Fire Department elects officers: Richard Yorke, president; George Edwards, vice president; L.L. Mutchie, fire, chief; Elden Salyards, first assistant chief; Elmo Noris, second assistant chief; J.A. Work, secretary-treasurer; Lee Hinde, fire warden; and E.M. Harrell, historian.

Clarkville and Wages News - Scott Hood was a Sunday evening dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Salvador.

Paoli News – Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Harms and sons and Mrs. Bill Lundberg were Sunday evening supper guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vern Alberts and sons in Holyoke.

Sharon Arthur is the new music teacher in the Fleming School. She is a recent graduate from college at Chadron and has been teaching in Bayard. Last summer she toured Europe with AYSC Chamber Orchestra as a trumpet soloist.

Jan. 12, 1994

County gets new state trooper to oversee highways: pictured is the Pierce family, including dad and mom, Ken and Cindy, and daughters Jessica, 4, and Macey, 18 months. State Trooper Ken Pierce officially took over the duty of patrolling the county's highways on Jan. 3. He says he enjoys helping people.

Employee of the quarter for the final quarter of 1993 is Betty Lick, secretary at Haxtun High School. She was nominated by Dr. Jack Pendar, superintendent of schools.

Tish Falk retired, became a grandmother and went back to work, all as 1993 faded and 1994 began. Grandpa Jack Falk was watching the Orange Bowl when the phone rang. "Nebraska was lining up for that last field goal when the phone rang," he said. "The news was much better than the results of the kick," he said.

The Haxtun Police Department welcomed Officer Tom Bullard last month. Bullard joins Chief Tanya Mayhew and Officer Mike Beard bringing the department to full staff.

Northeastern Junior College announced honor students for the 2013 fall semester. Those from Haxtun and Fleming who made the list are: Janaya Daily, Karlee Harris, Tyler Vandenbark, Derek Whittington, Emily Anderson, Izaak Brown and Brittney Mahnke.

They did it! The Haxtun Lady Bulldogs prevailed on the basketball court Friday night as they captured a 44-40 win over Wray. The victory is the first for the team this season.

The Bulldogs improved to 6-1 on the season with a 40-point win over Wray last week. The game gave most players action on the court and 12 of them found themselves in the scoring column.
