Glenn Huwa

Glenn Dean Huwa Glenn tragically lost his life in a car accident on Dec. 28, 2023.

Glenn was born on Nov. 1, 1952 to Alexander and Ella Mae Huwa of rural Weld County north of Windsor. His younger brother, Richard (Dick), joined the family a couple of years later. Glenn grew up on his parents' dairy farm, where he learned farming expertise while helping support their family farm.

Glenn attended elementary and junior high schools in Severance, Gilcrest and LaSalle until his family moved to a farm north of Kersey. He attended Platte Valley High School in Kersey and graduated in 1970. After graduating from high school, he attended Northeastern Junior College for one year before he returned to help his parents on the family farm.

Glenn married Debra Ann Wailes on June 7, 1975. Glenn then began dairy farming with Debbie's parents, William Sr. and Virginia Wailes, east of Kersey. In 1978, they uprooted their lives in Weld County and moved to Holyoke, when they decided to expand Double W Farm Dairy. William Sr. unexpectedly died soon after; Glenn, along with his brothers-in-law, Marc Wailes and Gregg Wailes, stepped in and have continued to run and operate the dairy farm to this day. They were immensely proud of the farm, winning many national awards along the way. Glenn devoted nearly 50 years of his life to Double W Dairy.

Debbie and Glenn raised their three children, Jennifer, Lindsay and Evan, in Holyoke. Glenn was a loving husband and a proud father. He graciously cared for and stood by his wife of 25 years while she bravely fought but ultimately lost her battle with cancer in 2001. Glenn courageously continued to raise and care for his three children following Debbie's passing.

In 2016, Glenn found a new love and companionship when he married Charla Bird (Salvador). Together, they were able to celebrate grandchildren and travel. They especially enjoyed their time together in Estes Park.

Glenn was a man of great faith who loved his family fiercely. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life. He also loved his friends, dairy farming, the community of Holyoke and the Colorado Buffs. Glenn believed in giving back to his community; he was a member of the Holyoke School Board and the Phillips County Phone Board. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Holyoke for many years.

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Glenn is survived by his wife Charla Huwa; children Jennifer and husband Justin Cowan, Lindsay and husband Ryan Perrich and Evan and wife Bailey Huwa; grandchildren Connor and Caleb Cowan, Brooks and Eloise Perrich and Reese, Navy and Halle Huwa; brother Dick and wife Valerie Huwa; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Jim Young, Diana and husband Joe Parker, Elaine Wailes, Shirlee and husband John Stevenson, Eric (Michael Holloman) Wailes, Marc and wife Janel Wailes and Gregg Wailes; many nieces and nephews; Charla's children Brittany and husband Ryan Kurtzer and their children Quinn, Adley and Charleigh Kurtzer; and Ashley and husband Dillon Harchelroad.

Glenn is preceded in death by his wife Debbie Huwa; parents Alexander and Ella Mae Huwa; father and mother-in-law William Wailes and Virginia Wailes Morris; brother-in-law Bill Wailes; and sister-in-law Linda Young.

Glenn's memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Phillips County Events Center. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to your local FFA chapter, a charity or a cause close to your heart. All memorial contributions collected will be donated to the Dragon's Wagon Preschool in his memory.
