Lady Bulldogs to host Akron in final regular season home game

It’ll be a battle against the Rams in the Lady Bulldogs’ final two regular season outings as the team preps to take on Akron and Merino this week and next. Haxtun is set to host Akron in the final regular home game this Friday night and next week, travel to take on Merino at the home of the Lady Rams.

Haxtun hit the road in both of their contests last week, first traveling to Caliche to take on the Lady Buffs and the next to Wray for a match up with the Lady Eagles.

The Lady Bulldogs put nine points on the board in the first quarter in Caliche on Friday, putting the team down by just three. Haxtun had a big second quarter, coming up with 15 while holding the home team to 10. Haxtun held the advantage, 24-22, at half time.

Haxtun stayed on top throughout the third, scoring one more than Caliche but the Lady Buffs had a stand out fourth quarter, taking the lead and the win by six, 52-46.


Senior Cassidy Goddard and junior Jayleigh Bullard combined for 28 points in Caliche. Goddard led the team with 15. Bullard added 13. Junior Emily Anderson put up nine points and freshman Emma Lemesany added eight.

Bullard pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double last Friday. She brought down five on offense and five on defense. Anderson and Goddard each nabbed six rebounds under the net and Lemesany and senior Heily Avery both brought down four.

Junior Kelsie Hadeen tallied four assists and four steals, leading the Lady Bulldogs in both categories.

Saturday’s action pitted the Lady Bulldogs in a match up with the Lady Eagles in Wray. The Lady Eagles put 13 points on the board in the first few minutes, putting the home team up by just two. Haxtun came out hot in the second, scoring 11 points while defensively holding the Lady Eagles to just eight. At the half, the Lady Bulldogs held a one point, 22-21, lead.


A slow quarter after the half gave Wray an advantage they would go onto hold for the remainder of the game, giving the Lady Eagles a 49-35 victory.

Goddard led her team for the second night, putting 15 points on the scoreboard in Wray. Anderson came up with eight, Bullard and Hadeen each registered eight and Avery added three.

Under the basket, Goddard led in rebounds with nine. She brought down three on offense and six on defense. Hadeen registered seven rebounds, Anderson and Bullard each had four and sophomore Lilly Lemesany tallied three.


Anderson, Goddard and Avery each added three assists on Saturday. Anderson led in steals with four.

Friday night’s action at home against the Rams will feature parents’ night for Bulldog athletes. According to MaxPreps, the Lady Rams hold an 8-8 overall record.

The following Friday, Haxtun will wrap up regular season play in Merino.
