Wrestling regular season comes to a close

The Sedgwick County/Fleming boys’ team had a busy final week before Regionals. They hosted their last dual on Thursday, Feb. 1 in Ovid against Burns/Pine Bluffs, Wyo. They then traveled to Dayspring Christian and Yuma on Friday and Saturday for duals tournament. These meets marked the final of the regular season.

Individual results for wrestlers competing against Burns/Pine Bluffs out of Haxtun and Fleming are as follows:

120-pound Kaiden Schelling won by forfeit.

125-pound Coleman Firme won by forfeit.

132-pound Gage Helgoth pinned Caysen Ross in :32.

138-pound Scotty Engle won by forfeit.

190-pound Kale Volkman won by forfeit.

Dayspring Christian defeated SC/F in Friday’s dual, 39-34. Individual results are as follows:

Schelling pinned Eliah Confer in 1:45.

Helgoth was defeated by decision in the 126-pound class by Landen Beauvais, 3-1.


Engle pinned Kai Polk in the 132-pound division in 1:57.

At 190 pounds, Ryan Davis defeated Wyatt Cross, 14-4.

Kale Volkman won by forfeit in the 215-pound class.

At Yuma on Saturday, the SC/F team dualed Chatfield, Yuma, Dayspring Christian, Holyoke and University. The SC/F team defeated Yuma, 57-18; Dayspring Christian, 43-33; and Holyoke, 54-21. They lost to Chatfield, 46-33, and University, 35-30. Individual results for wrestlers competing out of Haxtun and Fleming that day are as follows:

Schelling competed at 120 pounds. He defeated Shiloh Dellamia-Van Overmeiren of Chatfield, 8-4; pinned Augi Montes de Oca of Yuma in 2:46; defeated Eliah Confer of DSC, 10-1; won over Holyoke by forfeit; and pinned Cameron Cordova of University in 1:42.


Helgoth wrestled at 126 pounds. He lost by fall to Sid Dillon of Chatfield; pinned Blake Stivers of Yuma in 1:25; lost to Landen Beauvais of DSC by sudden victory, 6-4; won by forfeit over Holyoke; and pinned Caleb Tippetts of University in 0:54.

Engle competed at 132 pounds. He defeated Jasper Hamilton of Chatfield in 0:41; pinned Ethan Nadow of Yuma in 1:28; pinned Kai Polk of DSC in 1:56; won by forfeit over Holyoke; and pinned Will Kirtley of University in 1:11.

At 157 pounds, Grant Statz won by forfeit over Chatfield; defeated Trey Stegman of Yuma, 9-2; defeated Joseph Noce of DSC, 6-5; and lost by forfeit to Brody Garrett of Holyoke.

In the 190-pound division, Davis was pinned by Lyle Wiley of Chatfield; won by forfeit over Yuma, Holyoke and Dayspring Christian. He lost to Deshaun Salazar of University, 11-3.


Volkman competed at 215 pounds. He lost to Harper Packebush of Chatfield; was pinned by Deacon Brown of Yuma; won by forfeit over Dayspring Christian and Holyoke. He was pinned by A.J. Schuler of University.

The SCF boys will travel to Akron to compete in the Region 1 Regional Tournament on Feb. 9 and 10. Session one on Friday begins at 4 p.m .; session two on Saturday begins at 9 a.m.

The SC/F girls hosted their last dual of the season against Burns/Pine Bluffs, Wyo. last week. This was a last minute dual added to the schedule for the girls. The girls won the dual 30-24. Results for wrestlers competing out of Haxtun and Fleming are as follows:


120-pound Annie Wilson won by forfeit.

135-pound Autumn Volkman won by forfeit

At 155 pounds, Olivia Stone was defeated by CharlieMarie Jackson by fall.

The SC/F girls will be traveling to Fort Lupton to compete in the Region 1 Regional Tournament Feb. 9 and 10. Wrestling begins at 4 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday. The gym will be cleared prior to the parade of championship and championship matches on Saturday evening.
