Miss Gladys Spanjer, and Glenn C. Haynes, Haxtun young people, were married last Friday at the home of Rev. E.F. Weaver, pastor of the Brethren Church. The marriage took place at 4:30 o'clock. They were accompanied by Miss Erma Banks, Miss Della Riley, Leo Butte and Clair Spanjer.

Dailey News - Mrs. A.A. Fuesz, Miss Golda Ebbert and Miss Kathryn Deboise made a business trip to Sterling Thursday afternoon.

Feb. 10, 1954

Fleming News - Members initiated into the VFW Auxiliary at Holyoke included: Mrs. Earl Lackey, Mrs. Les Smith, Mrs. George Hradecky, Mrs. Earl Atkins and Mrs. Clyde Bledsoe.

Hospital news: The hospital wishes to thank Miss Bonnie Lee Morris of Fleming for the gift of a ladies' chenille bathrobe. Mrs. Allie Tenny, who received a half bushel of grapefruit from her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. F. Becker, who are vacationing in the south, has been graciously distributing the fruit among the hospital patients and nurses.

Feb. 8, 1979

The Lawmen, a musical and comedy group, will provide the entertainment at this year's annual Lions Club Chuckwagon Supper held Saturday night.

Mike Hainley accepted his award as champion in the 141-pound class at the district wrestling tournament held last weekend in Haxtun.

Deaths: Carl John Eckman, 67, a longtime resident of the Fairfield community, Feb. 1; Jesse L. Schmidt, 85, Feb. 3.

Fleming News - A new boy in kindergarten is Aaron Herder, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Herder, newcomers to the community.


Three Haxtun wrestlers earn state berth: Mike Hainley, Gregg Raffaeli and Brad Lightsey.

Barbara Ann Katein of Fleming High School has been nominated as the outstanding sophomore and will attend a Colorado Youth Leadership Seminar on the American Incentive System in February in Golden.

Feb. 9, 1994

Dr. Jack Pendar, superintendent of schools, was surprised when announcers broadcast his 50th birthday during Saturday's basketball game.

Three weeks after fire gutted the building that housed Leon Atkins Motors, owner Leon Atkins officially announced that he will not rebuild in Haxtun but plans to move the business 17 miles east to Holyoke. The business was open 28 years ago by Leon's father, Wilbur Atkins, who purchased the Minneapolis Moline farm machinery business in 1956 and moved it to his residence a half-mile north of Haxtun.

Callers, once again, have targeted the Haxtun area and are scamming elderly of money. According to Police Chief Tanya Mayhew, there has been an increase in scams or fraud in the area over the past few weeks.

Of the business items listed on the Haxtun Hospital District Board of Directors' agenda for Feb. 3, one task stood out as crucial, the appointment of a designated election official; crucial because terms for all three remaining members of the HHD Board end with the next election.
