After an illness of several years, Mrs. Henry Hofmeister passed away Feb. 9, at 86 years, six months and 21 days.
There is a difference in dollars. There is the "tramp" dollar, the dollar that is spent away from home. Then there is the home dollar, with its home circulation, home benefits, home profits. The home dollar continues to multiply itself at home, for her community interests are mutual. Not so with the "tramp" dollar. Once spent, it is gone forever.

Servicemen: Among the 154 officers and enlisted men of the various branches of the services in Korea who boarded the attack carrier USS Wasp for a visit to Hong Kong last month, was Airman Second Class Charles W. Kurtzer, USAF, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Kurtzer of Haxtun. The ship stayed in Hong Kong for six days before returning them into their duty stations.
Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Pope are observing their golden wedding anniversary Feb. 28, with an open house. Assisting with arrangements are their daughters Mrs. Ben Burmester of Haxtun and Mrs. Herman Wolff of Greeley.
Fairfield News - Following choir rehearsal last Thursday evening, Mrs. William Ruch and daughter Bonnie May served lovely refreshments to the choir members, surprising her husband, who celebrated a birthday anniversary. Mrs. Carl Eckman was also an honored guest with a Feb. 12 birthday. Other guests: Pastor and Mrs. Ahnstedt, Mrs. Orville Ekman, Mrs. Arvid Anderson, Mrs. Gust Anderson, Robert Anderson, Carl Eckman, Lawrence Bjorklun and Paul Ruch.

Winners of the fire-prevention poster contest conducted by the Haxtun Sirens: Chris Nelson, Lisa Lundgren, Donn Nolin, Troy Anderson, Patsy Bjorklun, Renee Pfaltzgraff, Carolyn Kain, Stacy Fecht, Bill Dieckman, John Harris, Kevin Fetzer, Jimmy Olson, Debbie Fetzer, Jim Switzer, Julie Orth and Susan Markham.
Outstanding physical fitness awards were awarded at the Scout Blue and Gold banquet in Haxtun to Russell Kinzie, Timmy Olson and Greg Koellner. Mark Thompson earned his Bear Badge and was promoted to the Webelo Scouts. Leaders pictured: Tom Brotherton and Doug Kinzie.
Ladies who engineered the successful Heart and Games Day at Fleming Friday, included Mrs. Chas W.T. Atkinson, Mrs. Donald Gorbutt, Mrs. Elizabeth Lousberg, Mrs. Monroe Bell, Mrs. Delbert Sonnenberg, Mrs. Williamson, Mrs. Shepler, Mrs. Henry Hulse and Mrs. Mitchell Davis. Mrs. Mary Phillips was a babysitter. Mrs. Eunice Dreier, Heart Queen candidate's mother, was busy in both places.

Steve and Nora Hofmeister are preparing to close on the purchase of Haxtun's former Hofmeister Lumber Yard property. That property, previously owned by Steve's uncle, Jim Hofmeister, sat vacant after the lumberyard closed in 1992.

Fleming science fair winners: Janelle Monroe, overall senior division; Aaron Schaeffer, overall junior division; Michael Wernsman, most unique; Ryan Atkinson, most attractive.

First Dollar certificates were awarded to those who opened businesses in Haxtun over the past year. Those who accepted awards and the businesses they represent included Barb Westbrook, Retread Treads; Doug Larson, Hortau/Contigo Ag, LLC; and Sara Firme, Elements Creative Interior Design.
