At a beautiful and impressive candlelight ceremony was solemnized at six-thirty o'clock on Saturday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Anderson when their daughter, Miss Violet, was given in marriage to Mr. Bern Trego, son of A.A. Trego. The ceremony was witnessed by the immediate families. The marriage vows were read by Rev. William Pepper of the Methodist Church at Holyoke.
Mrs. James R. Birrell entertained at a four o'clock tea Sunday afternoon, honoring her mother, Mrs. Ruby Ewing of Sedgwick. The invited guests were former students and friends of Mrs. Ewing, who was a teacher at the Fairfield school 35 years ago. Guests: Mesdames Henry Anderson, B.J. Anderson, John Berg, J.D. Birrell, C.W. Gale, A.R. Haskins, Albin Johnson, David S. Johnson, C.C. McCune, Orton Wood and Sara Olson.

Hospital news: Mrs. Charlotte Noreen, who had been a patient at the hospital for the past year, was dismissed Sunday and returned to her home in Haxtun.
Death: Hattie Mae Thompson, 75, Sterling, Feb. 22. She was born May 9, 1878.
Fairfield News - Little Carolyn Eckman returned to her home from Denver this week. She is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Eckman.
Clarkville News - Mrs. Marie Lundgren and children attended the music recital at the Methodist Church Sunday afternoon. Melvin took part in the program.

Fleming News - Two new students in the Fleming School are Dale Wisecup, fourth grade, and Denise Wisecup, second grade. Their folks are Mr. and Mrs. Rogers Summers. They are making their home in the Leon Beck house. He is a truck driver.
Fleming News - Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hulse visited with the Don Gerkins at Chandler, Ariz., while on their recent trip with other Flemingites. The Gerkins, who live in Coolidge, Ariz., drove to Chandler to the visit.

Donn E. Nolan, a 1985 graduate of Haxtun High School, recently earned his B.A. from the University of Northern Colorado.
Kelli Lightsey of Haxtun was the recent recipient of a PEO continuing education grant in the amount of $1,000. She is pursuing a degree in business with a minor in accounting through Regis University at Northeastern Junior College, with plans to graduate in June.
Eight Haxtun students advance to the regional spelling contest in Yuma in March: Melissa Lindekin, Jenna Heermann, Susan Bishop, Hillary Perkins, Carey Smith, Crystal Munday, Krystle Hofmeister and Craig Smith.

Members of the Haxtun Hospital District Board of Directors, which now numbers four, voted to terminate Chief Executive Officer Don Burris "with cause."
Eli Meakins and Briauna McFadden are headed to the State Spelling Bee in Denver on March 8. The two competed in the Regional Spelling Bee last month and scored high enough to make it to the oral round along with fellow Haxtun speller Katie Gibson. Eli and Briauna finished in the top 16 from the oral competition to punch their ticket to the State Be. Eli earned third place and Briauna ended up 13th.
Thanks to a grant from History Colorado, the Phillips County Courthouse will soon have a new windows. The County asked for $92,000 in grant funds for the project and actually received $110,472.
