FRESHMAN HADLEY Stulls grabs a rebound and looks to shoot in the closing minutes of the Regional Championship.

The 2023-24 basketball season came to a close for the Fleming Lady Wildcats last week in the second round of Regional play. Their Regional berth came on the heels of a third place district showing the week prior, which allowed them to advance into Regionals as the number 12 seed in a 32-team bracket.

The number 12 ranking put Fleming on the court at the home of the fifth ranked Idalia Lady Wolves. The Lady Wildcats took on the 21st seeded Granada Lady Bobcats on Friday to open the tournament.

Friday's game saw the Lady Wildcats up by 16 points after the opening half, 31-15. The local ladies went on to win the game by 20 points, 54-34.

Individual stats were not available for the game as of press time.

Friday's win over Granada, put Fleming in the championship contest against the hosting Idalia Lady Wolves. The two teams met up just two weeks prior in a regular-season closer in which the Lady Wildcats fell by 10 on their home court.

Saturday's championship ended in the same fashion with the Lady Wildcat offense finding just single digits in each of the four quarters of play. Idalia put up 13 points and 10 points in the first and second quarters, respectively, to give them a nine-point lead at the half.

LADY WILDCAT sophomore Ciana Lousberg goes up for a shot against Idalia on Saturday.

The Lady Wolves added one point to that lead in the third quarter, outscoring Fleming 9-8. The final quarter sealed the win for the Lady Wolves after they bested Fleming by four points and took the win 44-30.

Individual stats for the game were not reported as a press time.

The Lady Wildcats finished the year at 11-10 overall. They were second in their league with a record of 3-1.

The team loses two seniors to graduation this year. MadiKay Serrato and Tori Champ closed their high school basketball careers on Saturday.

Watch future additions of the Herald for the announcement of All-Conference designations.
