Pictured are Haxtun Bulldogs, runners-up in the State Class B basketball tournament in Denver last week. After winning three games, the team was defeated by Alamosa in the finals. Players: Arden Sack, Laurie Ramsay, Harold Ruch, Quintin Bullock, Bill Drummond, Coach C.M. Bertagnolli, Byron Bailey, Everett McConnell, Junior Meakins, Stuart Exstrom and Harold Delander.

A raid by the sheriffs office resulted in the confiscation of 10 slot machines, one pinball machine, and a number of punchboards from business houses in Haxtun Monday by Sheriff H.M. Clements.

Fairfield News - Mrs. Ben Lindgren entertained in honor of the birthday anniversary of her daughter, Donna Dell. Guests: Misses Majelyne Anderson, Marguerite and Elaine Bjorklun, Althea and Norma Lundberg, Sylvia Anderson, Leila Smith, Darline Johnson, Gloria Tillberg, Fern Peter, Laura Lou Lindgren, Lavinia Early, Dorothy Weley, Gladys Skold; also, Messrs. March 17, 1954

The following clipping was taken from a Holdrege, Neb., newspaper about a Haxtun doctor: a Holdrege doctor, now on duty with the United States Navy, played an important role in the repatriation of 14,000 Chinese prisoners of war. He is Lt. Robert J. Ridenour, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Ridenour of Holdrege, who participated in the "Operation Come-Back" liberation of prisoners.

March 15, 1979

Winners in Commercial Club essay contest: grade school, Andrea Fryrear, Renee Pfaltzgraff, Barbara Salyards; high school, Tammy Benesh, Brett Garretson, Carolee Kurtzer. Lana Hinde of Haxtun Commercial Club and Arnie Constance, representing Haxtun Community Bank, presented the awards.

Senior Art Lick and junior Gary Carper have been named to the LPAA all conference basketball team.

Fleming athletes named all conference in Class A North Central League: Clarissa Lousberg, junior, and Frank Lousberg, senior. On the honorable mention list: Amber Mekelburg, sophomore, Nicki Unrein, freshman, and Randy Kirkwood, junior.

Haxtun FBLA students placing first and second in the recent district contest were John Hinde, Alan Eckman, Somer Ruch, Brian Starkebaum, Brenda Jeffers, Justin Hinde, Jill Potter and Brian Lock.

Two candidates are running for the top spot on the Fleming Town Council. Mayor Bob Stone will leave his seat after elections in April and Larry Schaefer and Stefan Bentley are each hoping to take his position. The decision will be left to voters during elections on April 1.

Water, water and water topped discussions of the Fleming Town Council last week. Members spent the majority of an hour-long meeting talking about necessary repairs and maintenance issues to town water equipment.

The Fleming Wildcats made their way to the 1A State Tournament last week via wins over Shining Mountain and Jim Elliot Christian the week prior. The team entered the State bracket as the number eight seed and finished in number seven.
