March 22, 1939

Proposing that school districts in the west end of Phillips County withdraw from the county high school system and form a union high school at Haxtun, local sponsors of the plan began enlisting support this week. At present, the Haxtun and Holyoke high schools are controlled by a high school committee of four members. Three of the board members live in the Holyoke territory, while the west end of the county has only one representative.

March 24, 1954

Earl Priddeaux, depot agent at Fleming for the past four years and who has been taking care of the local depot for the last several weeks, has now been permanently assigned as depot agent at Haxtun.

The three grade school winners in the recent essay contest, "What America Means to Me," have been announced: Ardith Harms, Sandra Harrell and Susan Smith. The contest is sponsored by the three Federated clubs of Haxtun.

Mrs. Frank Smith passed away this morning (March 24, 1959) at the local hospital, following a short illness.

Boom! Down it goes ... The old Clark Chevrolet building, one of the oldest structures in Haxtun, was taken down Monday.

The Community Insurance Agency, the one bank-holding company that holds controlling interest in the Haxtun Community Bank, has been sold by Ronald Moore and Jim Oliver and associates to Norman L. Peterson and Maurice Lindbergh Jr. from Lincoln, Neb.

Kathie Anderson, Haxtun, Kendra Morison, Teresa Katein and Jodi Lambert, Fleming, were named to the Lower Platte girls' all-conference basketball team. Honorable mention: Judy Ruch and Shelly Stansbury, Haxtun, and Arlene Wiebers, Fleming.

Fairfield News - Mr. and Mrs. Gary Ozias and Moira were among the hosts of a family Christian retreat at their hometown of Downs, Kan., last weekend. Attending from this community: Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Anderson, Jared and Leah; Mr. and Mrs. Evan Michael; Mr. and Mrs. Randy Schafer; Mr. and Mrs. Peter Schoon; Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Anderson, Misha and Aaron; Mr. and Mrs. Stormy Baker, Shannon and Chase; Wayne Skold; and Lowell Skold.

March 23, 1994

Phillips County Democrats named Everett Lambert Democrat of the Year during their annual Jefferson/Jackson Dinner on Saturday.

Shannon Salvador, and Casey Sumpter, Haxtun, were chosen all-conference in the Lower Platte Activities Association. Honorable mention: Alan Eckman and Mike McClain.

Wildcat track team members for the 1994 season: Tim Brekel, Frank Lousberg, Jerry Wisdom, Jeremy Vandenbark, Clarissa Lousberg, Amber Mekelburg, Lisa Koehler, Jaclyn Miles. Coach is Leo Mekleburg.

Bulldog track members: Steve Kussman, Dustin Ricker, Ryan Ley, Nathan Prottsman, Robert Matson, Landon Ham, Ian Harms, Ryan Salvador, Mike Davis, Ryan Michael, Brian Lock, Justin Lett, Alan Eckman, Mike McClain, Brian Starkebaum, Casey Goddard, Monty Waite, Roy Pfaltzgraff III and Brian Gueck. Coach is Keith Lick.

Haxtun girls' track team: Senaida Kinzie, Lindsey Firme, Michelle Wolff, Shannon Salvador, Gia Gillotte, Jessica Harms, Misha Mooney, Jodi Starkebaum, Casey Sumpter, Jamie Brundige, Paige Fuesz, Melissa White and Christy Kinzie.

Three Haxtun Bulldogs earn basketball All-Conference honors: Megan Gerk, Gabe Marner and Brandon Hinde.

Seven Fleming Wildcat earn honors following 2013-14 season: Joey Stahley, Jaxon King, Blake Meredith, Megan Chintala, Timmi Keisel, Kalyn Serrato and Janaya Daily.

Good news for Haxtun students ... Summer break will start earlier than anticipated. Board of Education members gave administration the go ahead to release elementary and middle school students following a half day on May 19, and highschoolers after a half day on May 21. Originally school was set to dismiss on May 22.
