As the regular season comes to a close, the Haxtun Lady Bulldogs are playing their best ball and Head Coach Arlan Scholl is looking forward to the challenging competitions ahead as he prepares to take the team to the District Tournament.

"It has been said many times that you want to be playing your best basketball of the season when it comes tournament time," Scholl said this week. "Well, I feel that our team is playing the best that we have all season."

The Lady Bulldogs won their final home court match up of the regular season Friday night as the team took down the Lady Tigers from Wiggins.

Haxtun went up early in the game with a nine-point advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Bulldogs kept up their offensive game as they added another 17 points to the board before the half.

Although the second half brought fewer points for the home team, it was enough to secure a 51-35 win over a 2A team.

"We played a dominating games against Wiggins," Scholl said. "And I was very pleased with our overall game. The girls continue to work hard and that hard work is starting to show up on the court."

Three Lady Bulldogs put up double digits in the scoring department Friday night, led by junior Bella Tori with 16 points. Tori made seven shots under the basket and connected with two of three free-throws to also led her team at the charity stripe at 67 percent. Senior Brooklyn Davis added 15 points followed by sophomoreK'Lyn Bornhoft with 12. Bornhoft made six of 10 free-throws to go 60 percent against Wiggins.

Under the basket, Allie Thompson led in rebounds with 10. The sophomore pulled down seven on offense and three on defense. Tori brought down seven rebounds under the hoop. Sophomore Taylor Schram tallied five assists and tied in steals at three apiece with Thompson.

The night before, Haxtun traveled to Merino where they met up with the Lady Rams. Stats by quarter were not reported for the contest, but the Lady Bulldogs fell by just seven, 38-31.

"In the game with Merino, we bested them in every statistical category except our shooting and that was especially true from the free-throw line," Scholl said. "We played very well, but just could not get the ball to fall at times. I was very pleased with our effort and defensively we did very well."

Davis put up 11 points for the night, leading her team in the points column. She connected with two three-point shots and two inside the paint. Bornhoft and Tori each added eight points to the Lady Bulldogs score. Bornhoft shot 67 percent from the charity stripe, sinking two of three free-throws.

Thompson pulled down five offensive boards and three on defense to led the Lady Bulldogs in rebounds for eight total.

Tori and Davis each had seven followed by Schram with six. Davis and Schram each tallied three assists. Schram also lead in steals with two.

This week Haxtun will wrap up the regular season with a contest on the road at Yuma. According to Maxpreps, the Lady Indians are currently 8-9 overall and 5-2 in league action. Next week, the team will advance to the first round of District action. Dates and times are to be determined at the conclusion of the regular season.

"We all look forward to the challenge of the District tournament coming up next week," said Scholl.
