Haxtun Hospital welcomes Wendy Evans to Physical Therapy department as Rehabilitation Director; new service lines added

Wendy Evans, MPT

With more than 20 years of experience in physical therapy and massage therapy, Physical Therapist Wendy Evans recently joined Haxtun Hospital Physical Therapy with the goal of helping patients get back to doing the activities they love most. Evans' addition allows Haxtun Hospital to offer new, specialized physical therapy services to the community.

New service lines

Additional service lines now offered include phonophoresis, trigger-point dry needling, Pilates reformer rehabilitation, massage therapy, TRX suspension training and KT taping. Each of these provide their own therapeutic and rehabilitative benefits for the patients, depending on their condition.

Phonophoresis is used for areas of the body with local inflammation. Medication, traditionally Dexamethasone, is combined with ultrasound to drive in the topical medication for inflammation relief.

Trigger-point dry needling, also known as intramuscular manual therapy, is a technique where a needle is inserted into the muscle and has been shown to reduce muscle pain in the neck, back, shoulder, hip, knee, foot and other areas of the body.

Pilates reformer rehabilitation is performed on a machine and can be useful for patients recovering from a knee or hip replacement. It's also helpful for rotator cuff rehabilitation and rehabilitation for higher level or elite athletes.

With Evans' massage license, she can offer massage therapy services including lymphatic drainage, myofascial release, manual trigger-point therapy and muscle activation technique.

TRX suspension training is great for functional strengthening and balance and higher function patients.

KT taping uses elastic sports tape to relieve pain while supporting muscles, tendons and ligaments. It helps reduce pressure to the tissue, reducing any discomfort or pain. KT tape is also used for "correct taping," which helps provide support to the muscles by limiting over-extending or over-contracting of the muscle.

Depending on the patient's needs and goals, Evans will develop an individualized plan that includes any of the above methods or other physical therapy treatments to enhance their quality of life by restoring mobility, increasing strength and/or improving balance. For some of those services not covered by insurance, a cash pay menu will be offered.
