Wildcats finish week at 1-1 with two regular-season games remaining

The Fleming Wildcats went 1-1 over the past week in back-to-back home contests. The Wildcats defeated the Stratton/Liberty Knighted Eagles on Friday before falling to the 2A Sedgwick County Cougars on Saturday. The win and loss put the Wildcats at 5-5 overall on the season; they remain at 2-2 in the North Central league.

The Wildcats jumped to an early six-point lead in the opening quarter on Friday night against the Knighted Eagles, 20-14. They expanded that advantage by another eight points before the close of the half to hold a healthy 40-26 lead.

Scoring between the two teams looked a little more comparable in the second half with the Wildcats outscoing the Knighted Eagles by four in the third and the Knighted Eagles outscoring the home team by four in the fourth. The Wildcats' opening half allowed them enough of an advantage to take the victory, 64-50.

Senior Kade Comstock led the Wildcats on the scoreboard for the night with 24 points. Comstock shot 83 percent from the field sinking 10 of 12 two-point attempts. He tacked on his remaining four from the charity stripe.

Sophomore Braylen Feather added 15 points to Fleming's total tally after putting two through the net from behind the three-point arc. He scored an additional four off two-point shots and went five for six from the free-throw line.

Sophomore Nolan Japp also saw double digits on the scoreboard with 10 points. Japp earned his with one three-point shot, two two-pointers and three free throws.

Sophomore Kolten Houser led the Wildcats under the net with 11 rebounds. He grabbed four offensive and seven defensive boards.

Feather earned a double double following Houser under the hoop. He brought down 10 boards split at two and eight respectively.

The Wildcats returned to their home court on Saturday afternoon to host the Cougars of Sedgwick County. Fleming fell to the visiting team 57-39.

Comstock and Feather each put up 13 poaints on the night. Comstock tallied his by way of five two-point field goals and three free-throws. Feather made three three-pointers and shot 100 in two-point field goals making two for two attempts.

In addition to his offensive showing, Feather led the home team under the net in rebounds with nine - all nine being defensive boards. Senior Chris Goss followed with four.

The Wildcats are slated for back-to-back Friday/Saturday action to wrap up their regular season. They'll travel to Lone Star on Friday night to take on the 2-6 Longhorns before hosting the 2-9 Rams from Akron. Contests are set to start at 4 p.m. and 2 p.m. respectively.
