Nov. 11, 1936

Dr. H.R. Rasor, Haxtun physician, and Miss Juanita Welton of Hot Sulpher Springs, Colo., were married last Thursday evening in Denver. The bride is formerly of Ottawa, Kansas. Mrs. Rasor returned to her school in Hot Sulphur Springs this week, but after resigning her position will come to Haxtun within a short time.

Wray-Yuma County farm women have adopted a slogan, "Let the Water Do the Running Instead of Mother," to emphasize their plans to have running water installed in more of the rural homes of the county during the coming year.

Carl J. Eckman, 87, well-known and highly respected resident of this community for 30 years, passed away suddenly at his home here early Monday morning (Nov. 9, 1936). In 1872 Mr. Eckman immigrated to the United States. He was born at Foisheda, Jonkipins Ian Smoland, Sweden, the son of Andrew and Johanna Wickman. At an early age his home was broken, caused by the death of his father, and he went to live with Captain Eckman. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Mrs. Emily Eckman; two sons, Arthur and Walter; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The oil surfacing of Highway No. 6 through Phillips County to the state line will be completed the latter part of this week. With the completion of the surfacing project here, all of No. 6 from the Nebraska state line to Sterling has been paved with the oil coating.

Nov. 14, 1951

The Haxtun Bulldogs won their final conference football game Saturday afternoon when they played the Fleming team on the Haxtun field. The game was the last one for six lettering seniors: Glen Skold, Lyle Hinde, Roy Lindgren, Stanley Ham, Eldton Reither, and Ray Corning.

Charles Monteith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Monteith who was recently called to service in the army, is now stationed at Camp Ord, Calif. He will be assigned to a band. Charles is a clarinet player and was a member of the Haxtun High School band during his days here.

The Junior Class of Haxtun will present its annual class play, "The Man from Missouri," Friday evening. Cast members are Jean Thornhill, Betty Beedle, Margaret Pond, JoAnne Chaney, Janice Bailey, Bob Stansbury, Arnie Vonderlage, Bob Glenn, Dick Esch, Paul Garretson, Pearl Hofmeister, and Carol Brooks.

Three students from Haxtun are enrolled at Colorado State College of Education, Greeley, for the fall quarter: Imogene Garretson, Mary Kurtzer, and Robert Monteith.

Nov. 11, 1976

The Fleming Wildcats boasted three all-conference selections for volleyball: Darlene Wiebers, Barb Wiebers, and Arlene Wiebers. Honorable-mention selection was Rhonda Monroe.

Patricia Allen was the Haxtun Bulldogs all-conference representative for volleyball. Kathie Anderson and Kari Starkebaum received honorable-mention awards.

The Haxtun Junior Class has selected "Solid God Chevrolet" for their class play this year. The cast: Julie Scott, Shirley Carlson, Pat Allen, Julie Bjorklun, Tim Carper, Dallas Reyher, Betty Schropfer, Bill Renzelman, Brian Biesemeier, Max Fetzer, Barb Ruch, Vicki Michael, and Roger Burton. Jerry Jarman is the director.

Paoli News - Mrs. Fred Kain went to Haxtun on Thursday afternoon to attend open house at the Haxtun Herald. Mrs. Melvin McConnell and children and Mrs. Charyl Russell and children also attended.

30 Years Ago

Nov. 14, 1991

Coming off a disappointing loss to Eads in semi-final state volleyball action last Saturday, Haxtun's Lady Bulldogs rallied for third place, beating Flagler 15-6 and 15-3. Pictured: head coach Rich Sumpter, accepting Good Sportsmanship Award from an official of Colorado High School Activities Association, and team members Becky Braun and Staci Starkebaum.

After serving nine and a half years as a member of Fleming Town Board, Marvin Einspahr resigned, effective Nov. 6. His resignation follows the hiring of Bill Helgoth by the town in order to eliminate any political bias that may hinder his ability to do a good job. Helgoth is Einspahr's brother-in-law.

David and Brenda (Uecker) Appelhans of Sterling announce the birth of their son, Jacob Paul Appelhans, born Nov. 8, 1991.

Haxtun Extended Care Unit resident Phil Edwards is pictured at Lucy's Place in Sedgwick on Oct. 17. Several employees from Haxtun Hospital District took residents to a familiar place for dinner and to visit with old and new friends. Also pictured is Lorainne Green and HHD's Andrea Klein.
