The Fleming Wildcats suffered two losses last week on the basketball court following at-home, season-opening action. The Wildcats hosted Haxtun Friday night and the Evangelical Christian Eagles on Saturday and dropped two 0-2 in the first week of play.

Friday's contest with the neighboring Haxtun Bulldogs opened with the Bulldogs on top by nine, 16-7. Fleming stepped up their game in the second quarter holding Haxtun's offense to nine points while putting up 22 of their own. The home team led at the half, 29-25.

The Bulldogs returned after intermission to regain control of the scoreboard. They added 16 and shut Fleming down to nine. Haxtun maintained their lead throughout the remainder of the game and grabbed the win 59-48.

The Feather cousins - both junior members of the squad - led the Wildcats on the scoreboard for the contest. Braylen Feather put up 11 total off a three-pointer and four twos. Blake Feather added eight off two threes and a two-point shot.

Braylen Feather took the top slot in boards. He brought down 14 total rebounds; 11 defensive and three offensive. Junior Kolten Houser followed with nine rebounds. His split at three offensive and six defensive.

FLEMING JUNIOR Kolten Houser goes up for a shot on Friday night at home against Haxtun. Haxtun's Michael Gerk looks to knock the ball down from behind. The Wildcats went 0-2 for their opening weekend losing to Haxtun and Evangelical Christian.

Evangelical Christian came to Fleming on Saturday night to dominate the home team. The Eagle defense held the Wildcats to single digits in all four quarters of the contest. The two teams put up an evenly paired performance in the first quarter with the Eagles tacking on seven and Fleming earning three. The visiting squad out scored the Wildcats by four in the second quarter, 12-8, to hold an eight point lead by the half, 19-11.

Low-scoring third and fourth quarters for the local team sealed the deal for the Eagles. Fleming put up five points in the third and managed just one point in the final quarter while the Wildcat defense gave up 24 throughout the second half. ECHS walked away with the 43-17 win.

Braylen Feather led the Wildcats with five points for the night. Houser followed with four.

Braylen Feather also led under the net in rebounds. He grabbed a total of 10; one offensive and nine defensive. Blake Feather, Houser and junior Nolan Japp followed with four rebounds apiece.

Just one game is listed on this week's agenda for the Wildcats - a Friday match up with the Caliche Buffaloes. That game is set for Friday, Dec. 10 in Fleming. Caliche enters at 1-1 with a week-one loss to Prairie and a win over Peetz. Contests that night are set to begin at 4 p.m.
