Nate Modrell

Nate Modrell passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021 in Haxtun at the age of 40.

Nathaniel Dean Modrell was born on April 5, 1981 in Holyoke. He lived the first five years of his life in the Julesburg area. As a small child, going to his Grandma and Grandpa Modrell's house was his favorite thing to do, especially on holidays with all of his family together. Nate liked going with is dad to the drilling rigs and hunting and fishing with him. During football season, both of them cheered for the Dallas Cowboys. If they beat the Denver Broncos, Nate would call his Grandma Jones to rub it in.

As Nate was growing up, he helped his mom in the garden and she taught him to cook. He became quite the grill master and grew beautiful gardens. Nate grilled any time of the year, but was smiling a little bit more when he had peppers form his own garden on the grill.

Nate's school days were spent at Revere. There he made many friends that lasted a lifetime.

Before moving to Haxtun, Nate was proud to be an active member of the Sedgwick County Fire Department. On March 21, 2008, Nate's world changed as he welcomed daughter, Kaylene. From that moment on he was dedicated to taking care of his daughter. He learned how to braid and fixed fancy hairdos. After a long day at work, he came home, cooked dinner, helped with homework and did whatever needed to be done. He never missed Kaylene's games or school programs. When possible, she went to work with her dad to ride in the tractor or combine or hauling grain. Nate also adored Kaylene's sisters Dawn Sidel and Renea Sosa.

The next life-changing moment for Nate was meeting Megan. The three of them enjoyed spending time together with all of their pets, camping and sitting around a camp fire. Football season got a whole lot more interesting at the Modrell house, too, as Megan is a Denver Bronco fan. Their love grew and the three of them created a strong family as they made their home south of Haxtun. Nate and Megan often talked of marriage and made plans for their future.

Nate is survived by his daughter Kaylene, Haxtun; fiancé, Megan Ressler; parents Rhonda and Time Jones; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A celebration of Nate's life was held on Dec. 11 at the Sedgwick Lion's Den.

Memorials may be sent to Points West Community Bank, P.O. Box 8, Haxtun, CO 80731 and addressed to the Nathan Modrell Memorial.
