BULLDOG catcher Michael Gerk snags a pitch behind home plate in the District Championship Friday afternoon.

The Bulldog baseball team is Regional bound following a second place finish in the District 4 Tournament last week.

Haxtun took down Briggsdale at home in round one to advance to the second round in Fort Morgan last Friday. Friday's action brought on a win over Otis to advance to the Championship match where the Bulldogs met up with Merino. Haxtun suffered a 15-3 loss to the Rams but secured a spot in the 1A Regional/State bracket slated to be played out later this week.

Rainfall early last week moved the first round of the District Tournament to the home of the Bulldogs Tuesday afternoon. Haxtun played late in the day against the lower ranked Briggsdale Falcons. The Bulldogs took a commanding 19-0 win in round one to advance in play on Friday afternoon.

Friday's action took place in Fort Morgan. Game one pitted Haxtun in a contest with the Bulldogs from Otis. For the second time this season, Haxtun pulled out a win over the fellow Bulldogs, this time 13-1.

That win secured Haxtun a spot in the District 4 Championship match up against the Merino Rams. On their way to the Championship, Merino earned a bye in round one and beat Caliche in round two to earn their spot in the championship game.

Merino jumped to an early 5-0 lead after the first two innings but the Bulldogs got on the board in the third with two runs of their own. The Rams had stellar third and fourth inning showings to increase their lead and take the game early in five innings, 15-3.

The second place finish at the Districts gives the Bulldogs a slot in the 16-team 1A Regional/State tournament. The Bulldogs are currently 14-7 overall and the seventh seed in the bracket.

Haxtun is set to face off with the 10th ranked Stratton Eagles on Friday at Cheyenne Wells. The winner of that game will face the winner of Cheyenne Wells and Prairie later in the day.

The winner of Friday's action will advance to the final four, set to be played on May 19.
