Haxtun picks up win over Wray at home

The Lady Bulldogs took a home court win last week, taking down the Lady Eagles from Wray in front of a home crowd for the first time this season. Haxtun's schedule featured two home games last week as the Lady Bulldogs took on Wray and Fleming in a busy week of homecoming action. A split with the two teams puts Haxtun at 7-8 on the season with seven regular season contests left on the schedule.

Wray took set one in Tuesday night action last week, 25-18, but the Bulldogs got a burst of intensity with cheers from their fans on their home court and rolled to a four set victory taking sets two, three and four, 25-17, 24-14 and 25-14.

As a team, Haxtun put 34 kills on the floor. Bobbi Starkebaum led the team in the kill category with 15. Maggie Kilgour put down six kills and Cassidy Goddard trailed right behind with five. Megan Walker added four kills followed by Julia Freeman and Jayleigh Bullard, each with two.

Goddard led her team at the net on defense, registering four blocks on the night. Walker and Starkebaum each tallied one.

The Lady Bulldogs combined for 12 aces in the contest against Wray. Grace Gibson led the charge with six followed by Walker an Emily Anderson, each with two, and Freeman with one. Haxtun served 94.6 percent in the four-set win.

In the back row, Freeman registered 19 digs followed by Goddard with 10. Starkebaum and Anderson each registered eight digs while Walker put up seven. On serve receive, four Lady Bulldogs tallied double-digits. Walker and Freeman each had 17 successful passes. Goddard came in with 15 followed by Anderson with 12.

Front row setter Kelsie Hadeen registered 16 assists in the contest. Walker contributed nine followed by Starkebaum with seven.

Friday night action pitted the Lady Bulldogs on the court with the Fleming Lady Wildcats in Haxtun's annual homecoming match up. Fleming took the sweep 25-17, 25-22 and 25-18.

In Friday's action, the Haxtun team tallied 29 total kills lead by Kilgour. Kilgour put 10 kills on the floor followed by Goddard with eight and Starkebaum and Walker with five and four, respectively. Starkebaum also registered two blocks at the net. Goddard tallied one.

Haxtun sent over four aces led by Walker with four. Goddard and Freeman each registered one aces from behind the service line. As a team, the Lady Bulldogs served 84.7 percent against the Lady Wildcats.

The ladies in red dug up 52 balls in the back row. Freeman registered 12 digs followed closely by Walker who tallied 11. Anderson led in serve receive with 19 passes. Freeman added 18 while Walker passed up 11.

Hadeen and Starkebaum combined for 26 assists on the night; Hadeen registered 15 assists while Starkebaum added 11.

This week's action for the Lady Bulldogs includes a home game contest with Akron on Friday night beginning at 4 p.m. According to MaxPreps, the Lady Rams are 0-11 on the season.
