AS NEWS CAME that the Haxtun Swimming Pool Project has been recommended for approval of funding from Great Outdoors Colorado, crews began tearing off tin from the existing pool last week. The grant application now moves into the next round, awaiting final approval from the GOCO Board, which is expected to come in December.

Kick-off your Halloween weekend with a fun Trick or Trot one mile or 5k walk or run event scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 29 at 4 p.m. Wear your costume, bring your friends and have a spooktacular good time! Little Sprouts Learning Center will be selling walking tacos with dessert and water out of the baseball field concession stand from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Waivers for the event can be picked up at the Haxtun Town Hall or Phillips County Extension Office. This fundraiser is set to help two very important assets within the Haxtun Community - the Haxtun Swimming Pool and Little Sprouts Learning Center.

The Haxtun Pool Committee is proud to announce that Great Outdoors Colorado has recommended approval for funding of the pool project and is currently awaiting GOCO board approval. This is amazing news for Haxtun and pool project as the Haxtun Swimming Pool has made it to the final round. The pool committee continues to fundraise to help shrink the gap of what would still need to be raised if the GOCO board approves the swimming pool project.

Recently, Haxtun students raised $160 in a Pennies for a Pool campaign. Jars for pennies were also distributed to area businesses who helped collect coins for the pool project. At a recent fundraiser held in conjunction with Haxtun's annual Corn Festival, the Swimming Pool Committee raised over $1,500 through a free-will donation pulled pork dinner.

Construction has begun at the Haxtun Swimming Pool with the removal of the outside of the building. Continue to follow the Facebook page, Haxtun Swimming Pool Project and The Haxtun-Fleming Herald for continued updates.

Walking Tacos will be served to help Little Sprouts Learning Center, a childcare center that has experienced hardship due to unforeseen circumstances. Little Sprouts Learning Center's main area of concern has been a cycle they have struggled to break through. LSLC has a lack of teachers, however, they can't hire more teachers until they can enroll more children and they can't enroll more students because they can't afford to hire the qualified lead teachers that are needed to fill the open positions. It is a cycle they have struggled to break unless help steps in and allows them to grow and head in a positive direction. Unfortunately, this has left many parents in the community with difficult work decisions.

LSLC continues to sell Papa Murphy's Pizza and distributing them from the Community Center every Thursday night. Please look for their flyer on their Facebook page, Little Sprouts Learning Center to comment for your pizza orders.

Trick or Trot shirt pick-up, last minute registrations and costume judging will begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29. The race will start at 4 p.m. Organizers ask that you park at the Haxtun Community Center, located at 125 E. Wilson Street and carefully walk to the starting line which is located by the Haxtun Swimming Pool/baseball field.

Prizes will be given for Best Dog Costume, Best Decked Out Stroller, Best Dressed Group, Best Dressed Couple and Best Individual Costume. Waivers can be picked up and drop off, along with entry fees, at the Haxtun Town Hall, Phillips County Extension or Haxtun Elementary School Office. Please make checks payable to the Town of Haxtun, memo: pool project. Entry fees will increase after Wednesday, Oct. 19.

This Trick or Trot event provides an opportunity to bring your family out, be entertained, eat some walking tacos and socialize with others. Every donation the Haxtun Swimming Pool or Little Sprouts Learning Center has received, whether it be time or a monetary gift, have been greatly appreciated.
