Lady Bulldogs prepping for final regular season game with Merino

The Haxtun Lady Bulldogs have just one regular season game left on the schedule before post season play begins.

As of Tuesday morning, the Lady Bulldogs hold an 11-10 overall record and are 4-3 in league play, according to MaxPreps. In the last regular contest of the 2022 season, Haxtun is set to take on Merino on the road Friday night.

Over the past week, Haxtun traveled to take on the Bulldogs in Otis on Tuesday night and turned around for a home contest against Sedgwick County on Saturday. Saturday afternoon's match up also marked parents night; a time for players and coaches to honor their home support systems.

Haxtun battled for a four-set match in Otis last week. The Lady Bulldogs fell 25-21 in set one but bounced back for set two, 24-23. Sets three and four went to the home-town Bulldogs for the win, 25-18 and 25-19.

Two Lady Bulldogs combined for 28 kills in the four sets against Otis. Bobbi Starkebaum led the charge with 16 kills Tuesday night. Cassidy Godard put 12 kills down. Megan Walker added eight kills followed by Maggie Kilgour with six. Goddard and Starkebaum also stood out at the net; Starkebaum registering eight blocks and Goddard with three.

The team served 89.3 percent from behind the line with two Lady Bulldogs going 100 percent. Emily Anderson and Goddard each served perfectly while Anderson also tallied one ace. Walker put two aces over the net, the team high, for the night.

Godard, Walker, Grace Gibson, Starkebaum and Anderson all registered double-digits in digs from the back row. Goddard tallied 19 to lead the Lady Bulldogs on defense from the back row. Walker, Goddard, Julia Freeman and Anderson all took top markings on serve receive; Walker taking the top spot with 24 passes from the back row.

Sophomore setter Kelsie Hadeen put up 20 assists to her hitters throughout the four sets on the road Tuesday. Starkebaum added 12.

Saturday action saw the Lady Bulldogs on their court with the Lady Cougars from Sedgwick County. The Lady Cougars are one of two Lower Platte league team ranked in the 2A top-10 rankings in all of Colorado. The Lady Bulldogs fell in three, 26-16, in sets one and two, and 25-17 in set three.

Kilgour and Starkebaum matched for seven kills against the Lady Cougars. Goddard put six kills on the floor followed by Freeman with five. Up at the net, Starkebaum netted three blocks, the team high, while Goddard added one.

The Lady Bulldogs served 98 percent from behind the serving line, missing just one of 51 attempts. Freeman, Anderson, Walker, Starkebaum and Gibson all served 100 percent. Anderson and Starkebaum each tallied one ace on the night.

Hadeen put 14 assists in the air for Lady Bulldog kills, the team high. Starkebaum added seven assists followed by Walker with two.

In the back row, Goddard led in digs with seven followed by Walker with six. On serve receive, Walker and Anderson each put up 16 passes from the back row while Freeman led the team with 18.

Friday afternoon's action in Merino is set begin at 4 p.m. According to MaxPreps, the Lady Rams are 18-3 overall with two losses to Wiggins and one loss to Lamar.
