LADY BULLDOG senior Julia Freeman puts up a pass from the back row in an outing with Merino at home on Friday.

The Lady Bulldogs are on the way to Regionals. The team is set to host 16th seeded Belleview Christian on Friday night. Haxtun entered the 24-team post-season bracket as the ninth ranked team, earning the Lady Bulldogs home court advantage for 2023 Regional play.

The top 12 teams in the bracket earned hosting rights. All regional winners will automatically earn a berth to the State Championship bracket, set to be released by the Colorado High School Activities Association on Monday, Nov. 6. The State Tournament will take place Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 9-11 at the Denver Coliseum.

Haxtun wrapped up regular season play on Friday with a home court match up with the top team in 1A volleyball, the Merino Lady Rams. The Lady Bulldogs fell in set one but battled for a win in set two. Merino went on to take sets three and four for the win.

The Lady Bulldogs are one of just four teams to take a set win over the 22-1 Lady Rams this season. Others include Simla and Lyons as well as Wiggins, who handed Merino their only loss this season.

Junior Bobbi Starkebaum put down 14 kills in the four sets against the Lady Rams. She also led in total blocks with three for the night. Junior Maggie Kilgour registered six kills followed by junior Jayleigh Bullard with five and senior Cassidy Goddard with four. Goddard and Bullard each tallied two blocks at the net on Friday.

Goddard sent two aces over the net from behind the service line. She, along with senior Julia Freeman and junior Emily Anderson, served 100 percent for the night.

Kelsie Hadeen #13

Senior Megan Walker registered 16 assists to Lady Bulldog hitters throughout the four set contest. Fellow setter junior Kelsie Hadeen added 12.

Walker also tallied 18 digs in the back row. Her teammate Freeman dug up nine followed by Goddard with eight and Hadeen with seven. On serve receive, Goddard registered 43 passes, the team high, followed by Freeman with 18 and Anderson with 11.

According to MaxPreps, the Belleview Christians Bruins, out of Westminster, hold an identical 16-7 record as that of the Lady Bulldogs. Recently, the Lady Bruins picked up a win over Caliche but fell to Weldon Valley.

A win for the Lady Bulldogs on Friday will send the team to the 2023 State Championships. Game time in Haxtun is set for 6 p.m.
