Bulldogs set to face DCA in 1st round of NJC Holiday Tournament

The Haxtun Bulldogs are 1-2 following a single game over the weekend. Haxtun hosted Caliche for a Saturday afternoon matchup between the Bulldogs and the Buffaloes. This week the Bulldog basketball team travels to Northeastern Junior College in Sterling for the annual Holiday Tournament. Games are slated for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Last week's contest with Caliche pitted the Bulldogs against a fast-paced team that ran the floor. The Buffaloes put 28 points on the board in the first half while holding Haxtun to just 13. The Bulldogs came out firing after halftime, scoring 16 points in the third and 12 in the fourth but the Buffs managed to hold on for a 45-41 win.

Sophomore Chase Goddard led the Bulldogs' scoring game with 10 points. Senior Keegan Colglazier added nine points while sophomore Colin Cone put up seven. Junior Ryland Wolff registered six followed by freshman Madden Larsen who put up five points. Junior Tate Michael scored three points and senior Mason Bornhoft added one.

Game one of the NJC Holiday Tournament puts the Bulldogs on the floor against Dayspring Christian Academy at noon on Thursday, Dec. 14. DAC is also 1-2 heading into tournament play. The Eagles have a single win over Estes Park.

The winner of that contest will go on to face the winner of a contest between Holyoke and Sedgwick County on Friday evening. A loss puts the team on the other side of the bracket for play Friday afternoon.

Other teams in the tournament include Akron, Wiggins, Prairie and Merino.

Games continue on into Saturday play. For a complete bracket, visit the Haxtun School District Facebook page.
