JUNIOR Ryland Wolff, #11, puts up a shot under the basket in a home contest with Perkins County earlier in the season.

The Haxtun Bulldogs took on Prairie, Wiggins and Holyoke to open the second half of the basketball season. In the first nine days of the new year, the Bulldogs saw the court three times, traveling to both Prairie and Holyoke while also hosting Wiggins.

Haxtun took on Prairie to kick off 2024. Despite a close contest throughout, the home town Mustangs pulled away with a 49-41 win over the Bulldogs.

The following night, the Bulldogs hosted Wiggins for the first home contest of the new year. Haxtun put 15 points on the board for an early eight point advantage but the Tigers added 22 in the second to hold onto a two-point lead at half time. Haxtun put six points on the board in the third and 15 in the fourth but the Tigers managed a nine-point, 60-51 win.

On Tuesday, Jan. 9, Haxtun traveled to Holyoke to take on the Dragons for the second time this season. The Dragons nabbed a 56-25 win in the two team's first outing on Dec. 15 in the annual Holiday Tournament at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling.

Holyoke took an early 10-point advantage over the Bulldogs and never looked back, handing the Bulldogs a second loss this season.

Currently the Bulldogs are 3-6 overall with a busy schedule ahead. This week, Haxtun will host Prairie at home on Friday and on Saturday travel south to Yuma to take on the Outlaws.
