Strokes from other Pens

Letter to the Editor

We are in unprecedented times in our country, although we remain insulated from most of the COVID-19 situation, the situation is very real.

We ask that you continue to follow the social distancing guidelines that are in place, make every effort to remain six feet away from each other. We ask that you don’t gather in large groups and stay at home if possible. Good hygiene is critical to help slow the spread of COVID-19, please wash your hands at every opportunity and after sneezing, blowing your nose or touching your face.

I have spoken with the Haxtun Hospital and they are doing great at the current time, the last thing we want is see a spike in cases locally and over run the staff and facility with sick people. We will more than likely see cases locally, let’s do our part to help get life back to normal as quickly as possible.

The Town will look into a declaration of an emergency if we feel like it can possibly help our business owners on the other side of this situation. We are currently covered by the declaration on a State level. If the situation changes or warrants it, we will explore that later if we feel the Town can benefit from it.

If you are an at-risk individual with a compromised immune system or underlying health issues, please take every precaution and take care of yourself, self-quarantine.

We also have an aging demographic locally that is in the higher risk category, let’s take care of them. Make arrangements to help them with shopping or medication pick up or any other needs they may have.

I also ask if you can support local businesses during this time, it has been very hard on small business owners with the current closures coming from the State level. Support local businesses whenever you can, it means a lot right now.

Let’s take care of each other, ourselves and re-connect with our families and make the best of a situation that none of us want to be in.

Stay healthy and God Bless each of you!
