Community Fair stand lives up to its name

August 26, 2020

With the Phillips County Fair in the books, it is time to add up the numbers. The community fair stand served 100s of hamburgers, cheeseburgers and slices of pie while working diligently to meet the requirements of the COVID-19 challenge.

The stand raised more than $6,000 to be divided between the food banks of Haxtun and Holyoke with a portion going to help fund the transient support network in both communities. This massive effort and the vital proceeds raised would not be possible without almost 500 hours of volunteer labor, both during the fair and in the run up to it.

Members of the following organizations played a vital role in providing good food twice, once at the fair and in the months to come: Haxtun United Methodist Church, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Haxtun community, Christ the King Catholic Church, CHS, Highline Electric, Salvation Army, Cornerstone Ministry, Phillips County Sheriff’s Office, Holyoke Christian Church, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Holyoke Baptist Church, Holyoke Enterprise, Holyoke Lions Club and the Holyoke Methodist Church.
