Performers set to take stage at 100th Corn Festival on Sept. 25

The 100th annual Haxtun Corn Festival promises to be the best one yet!

To celebrate the past 100 years, organizers have lined up not one, not two, but three entertainers with sparks of other surprises for this year’s concert on Saturday, Sept. 25.

Chancey Williams headlines the evening event with special guests Judd Hoos and local artist Jordan Suter.

The Corn Festival concert takes place in downtown Haxtun. Gates open at 6 p.m. followed by Suter’s opening performance at 7 p.m. Concert goers ages two and up are required to purchase tickets, available online now or at the gate.

Jordan Suter

From the plains of eastern Colorado to the Midwest, Sterling native Jordan Suter returns to his home area to kick off Saturday’s concert in Haxtun.

After growing up in northeastern Colorado, Suter has found a home in St. Louis, Mo. Suter grew up playing in talent shows with his younger brother Jacob, but it took moving 800 miles to a city he had never even visited to start the chain of events that would lead to his music career.

Music has always been something that took up a large piece of Suter’s life, but always seemed to take a back seat to other obligations. Suter was a two sport high school athlete, played baseball in college while he completed his biology degree. So (unfortunately) playing the guitar and singing was just something that happened behind closed doors-after all of the practices and homework were finished.

After moving to St. Louis in 2017, Suter finally found the time and a home to express himself through his music. After attending an open mic night at Gaslight, where he showcased some of his original songs, Suter started to entrench himself in the local music scene. With the help of management at Gaslight and his band mates (Kyle Ray on the drums, Rick Wagner, guitarist, Danny Heflin on the Bass and vocalist Aden Black) Suter had himself a crew that rallied around the songs and made themselves available to play whatever gig or show that was thrown at them.

After listening to the stories that the songs tell while partnered with the musicianship of the band, it is easy to see how there has been such a buzz around Suter and the band.

To Suter, making music is the purest form of creation. Whether it’s playing a songwriter night in a quite low lit room or playing to a rowdy crowd at the local honky tonk, Suter’s broad catalogue has something to offer for all sorts of music lovers.

Suter recently released a four song EP with a batch of new songs set to be released through 2021.

Judd Hoos

Judd Hoos drummer, Shane Funk, attended Chadron State College in Nebraska where he met Haxtun former Mayor Todd Workman, who was also a student at Chadron State. Workman enticed the band to come to Haxtun to play for the Haxtun Corn Festival street dance starting in 2014 and the event went so well the Chamber of Commerce has asked the band to return several times since.

Judd Hoos has performed thousands of shows across the United States, including the Bellegio in Las Vegas, and has opened for national acts such as Three Days Grace, Puddle of Mudd, Breaking Benjamin, Theory of a Deadman, Big Head Todd and the Monsters.

Today the band consists of four members, Tyler Bills, Shane Funk, Chris Hornick and Andy Young.

2021 is full of optimism for Judd Hoos. The hit the ground running with the release of their latest EP NOT Alone. The project was recorded in October of 2020 in Nashville, Tenn. by producer J. Hall and Nickolas Blazina (Young The Giant, Delta Saints, Ric Todd).

In early 2021, Judd Hoos inked a tour sponsorship with Remedy Brewing Company. The Remedy Tour features 100+ shows across 10 states. Judd Hoos even collaborated with the brewery to create their own signature beer Hoos Joos.

The summer tour kicked off with the first ever Judd Hoos Charity Jam and include appearances with Buckcherry and Billy Idol as well as headlining 10 nights at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Chancey Williams

Saddle bronc rider turned neo-traditional country music sensation, Chancey Williams has gone from competing on horseback to performing on center stage at major rodeos, festivals and venues throughout the United States. The only artist besides Chris LeDoux to both ride and perform on stage at the world’s largest outdoor rodeo, known as “The Daddy of ‘Em All,” Cheyenne Frontier Days, Williams is the next authentic cowboy of country music.

Growing up on a ranch in the Cowboy State, Chancey learned the cowboy-way-of-life from his father, and like his dad, found himself a successful bronc rider, qualifying for the National High School Rodeo Finals, twice at the College National Finals and winning two rounds at Cheyenne Frontier Days.

Chancey embodies the western lifestyle to such an extent that he’s the first and only singer/songwriter to be endorsed by CINCH®. On an impressive roster of the world’s top rodeo athletes, Williams’ sits as the sole music-related endorsement deal.

Chancey Williams debuted his highly anticipated new album, 3RD STREET, at number five on the iTunes Country Albums chart. Produced by country music hitmaker, Trent Willmon, the full-length album is sure to resonate with country music fans of all ages. Williams co-wrote eight of the album’s tracks from the reminiscent throwback tune “College,” to upbeat anthems like “The World Needs More Cowboys” and “Tonight We’re Drinkin’” to raw, stripped-down ballads like “Let It Go.” The magic of 3RD STREET really shines through on the band’s brilliant remake of iconic Dan Seals and Marie Osmond duet “Meet me in Montana,” featuring Brooke Latka.

Tickets for the 100th annual Haxtun Corn Festival concert are available at the Haxtun Community Federal Credit Union, Hofmeister Insurance, Bank of Colorado in Sterling and at Kim Suter’s office in Sterling.
