FFA OFFICERS Chase Goddard and Brock Miller teach sixth graders about tractor safety.

The past week has been very busy for the Haxtun FFA Chapter. The annual member auction sale took place on Saturday, Sept. 30, during the 102nd Corn Festival. This year the chapter sold 74 members, starting with the president, Brock Miller, and ending with the advisor, Jeff Plumb.

The continuous support throughout the community was shown once again throughout this auction. The money that is made in this fundraiser is used for multiple occasions. The first is the National Convention that takes place at the end of October. This is held in Indianapolis where members take many tours and learn about the FFA Organization.

There are also many leadership activities that the money goes towards, including State Convention. Part of this money also goes into a community pride fund that is put back into the community throughout the year and other miscellaneous activities throughout the year.

Sixth Grade Ag Safety

On Oct. 4, the Phillips Country National Resource Conservation Service and Highline Electric came down to teach the sixth grade students about multiple different safety precautions. The kids split into groups of four and the FFA Officers taught them in different stations.

The four stations included: helmet safety, grain bin safety, PTO safety and tractor safety. Brock Miller and Chase Goddard talked about tractor safety and the safest way to drive up and down a hill in a tractor. Braden Plumb and Mason Bornhoft talked about PTO safety and what precautions to take when around heavy machinery. Megan Walker and Bobbi Starkebaum were on grain bin safety and not getting caught in a grain bin and what to do if caught. Lastly, Cassidy Goddard and Kinsley Koberstein were on helmet safety and different types of helmet and how to wear your helmet correctly.

After each group had gone through each station they came together with CHS General Manager Evan Fust and did a safety demonstration on grain bin entrapment and more grain bin safety; he also went over hard hats, gloves, etc.

Highline electric came to give electrical safety about insulators and conductors.
