ONE OF THE landmarks in Haxtun, the train depot located on Colorado Avenue at the railroad crossing, was moved Monday to a location south of Haxtun where plans are to convert the depot to a house. The depot was closed by Burlington Northern Railroad a year ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Moore and R. C. Jordan were dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie E. Taylor Tuesday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. N. Bentson entertained at dinner Sunday M. and Mrs. F. A. Alcorn and daughter, Edith Marie, and Mr. and Mrs. Leslie E. Taylor.

The Haxtun Harvest

A few silk dresses left at true bargain prices at Mrs. Hartwell's Shop. Choice of hats at 43 cents, Friday and Saturday.

Corbett Ice Cream, 12 different flavors. Full quart, 25 cents; full pints, 15 cents at Monty's Drug Store.

Mrs. Joe Patterson left Sunday for Estes Park to join Mr. Patterson, who is employed in that city.

The Haxtun Harvest

Farm and town residents of the Haxtun community will hold the Haxtun community will hold a public meeting at the Haxtun High School auditorium Tuesday evening, Aug 14, at 8 o'clock to consider plans for securing a hospital in the near future for this community. The proposed project is being sponsored by the Haxtun Commercial Club.

A truck load of wheat from a farm south of town operated by Tracy Hardy was left on a street in Sterling last Friday by a young transient truck driver who drove the truck to that town instead of delivering the wheat to the Haxtun elevator. The young man was rooming at a Haxtun resident with a son of the owner of the truck, and it is said that after that morning, he took about $100 in cash from his roommate and left for parts unknown.

Mrs. Laurel V. Critchlow received a telegram from the war department Tuesday afternoon stating that her husband, Private Dale K. Critchlow, had been killed in action on Sept. 23, 1944. In a previous war department message, she had been informed that her husband was reported missing after Sept. 23, 1944 in France.

Haxtun Postmaster Jake Steib was the winner of the recent Haxtun VFW No. 8591 Post raffle. Steib won a 13-inch color television after purchasing five raffle tickets from Albert Armstrong.

Gary Barkey of Haxtun brought home first place money from the demolition derby conducted Wednesday in connection with the Phillips County Fair in Holyoke. Over 20 cars were entered in the derby, which was sponsored by the Paoli Jaycees.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Sagehorn and sons of Holyoke and Carol Watson were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ruch in honor of the Sagehorn's 25th wedding anniversary.

First National Bank of Holyoke softball team sailed through Haxtun's women softball tournament last weekend to win the first place trophy. Members include, Lynn Dryden, Army Einspahr, Karla Stockton, Kathy Beavers, Kathy Smith, Angie Hofmeister, Pam Browning, Chris Lehman and Carol Hahn. They were coached by Doug Denny.

Miss Nancy Michael, bride-elect of Keith Beck, was honored with a bridal shower I the parlors of the Fleming United Methodist Church Tuesday evening. Hostesses were Fern Deines, Joanine Lousberg, Wanda Nelson and Kathy Brownell.

Fleming News - The Fleming Rescue Unit responded to a call Saturday night to the Frankie Daley home. He had a bad fall. They took him to Haxtun for treatment and he returned home.

Mr. and Mrs. Larry Wisdom, and Karen, Larry, Missy, Shelly and Larry Jr. and Jerry, have moved into Fleming and are living where Tom Wernsman lived.

Rockland News - Mildred Wisdom and Janice Heaston visited Everett and Minnie Gibbs, Glen and Janice. Janice is at Nuernburg Germany, she is stationed there. She is enjoying a visit with home folks, Mildred and Janice also visited with Pete and Dee Hill.

Charles Wilterdink attended the Rockland Fleming church services and picnic in Fleming Sunday. Chuck was also celebrating his birthday.

Deb Kugler, owner/operator of Kugler's Printing, Haxtun, is recovering from an accident that severely injured her left hand. Kugler's hand was crushed by an old-style letter press that the firm uses for numbering documents. She said she had reached into the machine to retrieve a sheet of paper and the printing mechanism dropped onto her hand.

On August 15, Sharon Michael, Holyoke, took the place of Pat Schneller as Phillips County Deputy Treasurer.

Governor Owens recently appointed Kristie Firme, Haxtun, to the State Soil Conservation Board. Firme and her husband Steven farm together on the family-owned and operated Firme Farms, Inc.

Sweethearts since high school, Lyle and Darlene Ham celebrated their 50th anniversary surrounded by family and friends at Haxtun's Community Center this past Sunday.
