Saturday, Sept. 22 will be a day to remember for LeRoy and Joanine Lousberg. Over their 53 years of marriage the two remember a lot of special days; their wedding, when each of their seven children were born, welcoming grandchildren to the world and now a new one as the two are honored as grand marshals of the 2012 Fleming Fall Festival.

Van Liufau grew up in a Congregational Church in American Samoa, an unincorporated territory of the United States located in the South Pacific, where his father ruled as king and served as a judge. Julia (Strobel) Liufau grew up in the Congregational Church at Bethune where her parents farmed and her brother Leland Strobel. They share wedding vows they took on Aug. 11, 1956. They share two children, four grandchildren and the times they spend together as a loving family. They share a love for education and the school system that provides it. They share a love for the Haxtun community, the place they have called home since 1964, and the people they call friends and neighbors, who gather to enjoy the foods they prepare for their famous luaus; the first prepared for the late Nora Dinsmore's 100th birthday that drew over 800 people. They share the memories they made during the five trips to Hawaii that they hosted for area residents, many of those Haxtun teachers that they met through their work with the school. And this coming Sept. 29, the two share the honor of leading the 91st annual Haxtun Corn Festival Parade down Haxtun's main street.
