Haxtun BOE hires Holly Kurtzer to teach K-12 art; community survey remains open through December

December 7, 2022

The Haxtun Board of Education held a quick special meeting last week to hire a new kindergarten through 12th grade art teacher. The vacancy comes following the resignation of Sara Martinez who submitted her resignation effective the end of December.

The meeting opened at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29 and as their only item of business, board members voted to hire Holly Kurtzer as the new K-12 art teacher in Haxtun. Kurtzer will resume art classes for students when they return to the classroom from holiday break the first week of January.

For the second consecutive week, the Haxtun Board of Education planned to meet again in special meeting, this time on Thursday, Dec. 8 for purposes of approving the mill levy. Information from that meeting was not available as of press time.

Survey open

until the end of December

The Haxtun School District is seeking input from both parents and community members. Recently, the District released a survey asking parents and community members questions on a number of items of interest including the four-day week and the possible introduction of random drug testing at Haxtun Schools.

The survey can be found at https://forms.gle/grd4FXjh5CvPpTfBA or by scanning the QR code accompanying this story. The link to the survey will be open through mid-December. All Haxtun parents and community members are asked to take the survey and give input. The survey includes nine questions and also includes a link to a FAQ sheet with common questions and information regarding the random drug testing policy.

Plans are to gather information from the survey after the first of the year and use it for a number of things including developing next year's school calendar, the proposed policy on random drug testing and the overall success of Haxtun High School graduates.

For more information on the survey or for support in completing the document, contact the High School Office at (970) 774-6111.
