Dec. 4, 1935

Miss Grace Davis, who is a senior in the Greeley State College of Education, is substituting in the college of music for an instructor, Miss Blanche Collins, during the latter's illness.

Mrs. Sherman E. Walrod and daughter Jean of Holyoke were guests of Mrs. L.E. Taylor Wednesday.

Homer Wieser drove to Grant, Neb., Wednesday evening to visit with friends for a few days.

A baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stoops of Fleming last Friday at the McKnight hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. B.A. Holt and daughter Faye and Mrs. Maxine Powell of Albuquerque, N.M., were Thanksgiving Day dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G.B. Hire.

Mrs. W.C. Moore underwent a tonsillectomy operation at the McKnight hospital Saturday morning.

A. Dunbar left Haxtun Sunday afternoon for Boulder and he was accompanied by his son Verne and Bud Donaldson. Mr. Dunbar returned to Haxtun Monday evening.

Misses Lula and Portia and Alexis Jr. Lubchenco arrived in Haxtun Wednesday evening to spend Thanksgiving Day at the home of their parents.

Dec. 5, 1950

A storm and cold snap moved into the Haxtun country Monday afternoon that brought a good fall of snow and below-zero temperatures Tuesday night. The weather this week was the coldest period at Haxtun in two years.

Fleming - Mr. and Mrs. John Wolfe received word last week that Judy Wolfe, small daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Wolfe of Tillicum, Wash., is a victim of polio.

Bob Biesemeier, Stanley Clark, Jack Price, Lyle Hinde and Glen Koch attended the Haxtun-Brush basketball game in Brush Friday evening. From there they went to Denver where they visited until Sunday afternoon.

South Country news - Little Jacqueline Wisdom was on the sick list last week.

Clarkville news - Mr. and Mrs. Louis Lett spent Sunday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lett. They all visited the oil well on the Brophy farm.

Fairfield news - The north extension of Line 15 has been completed and phones have been connected with the Haxtun exchange for Arthur Sandquist, Rickard Roos, and Arlo Ferguson.

Midway news - The children of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Burt and Mr. and Mrs. Orville Zimmerman have been ill the past week but are better at this writing.

Dec. 4, 1975

Forty-four interested citizens, school board members, accountability committee members and citizen committee members gathered Monday night to discuss the possibilities of proposing a bond issue for a new gymnasium facility.

The Herald has received an overwhelming response to its subscription drive announcement. This week's count totals 450 paid subscriptions. If the Herald receives 1,000 subscriptions by Jan. 1, subscribers will receive their paper for two years for the $5 subscription fee. If 1,500 are received, the paper will be delivered to the subscribers for three years for the same $5.

Death: Martha Mary (Stussy) Mooney, 84, Nov. 23, 1975.

Mrs. Robert Exstrom of Sterling returned Sunday from Chicago, Ill., where she attended the wedding of her sister, Deborah Haberkorn. She was met in Denver by Robert Exstrom and children.

Mr. and Mrs. Vernon O. Price and Kim were hosts on Thanksgiving Day to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thompson and family of Center, Mr. and Mrs. Verne Price St. and Mrs. and Mrs. Barney Buss of Haxtun.

Mr. and Mrs. Ace Goddard entertained at a Thanksgiving day dinner with guests Mrs. Freda Damrow, Mrs. Verna Decker, Mr. Ray Goddard and Mrs. Jerry Goddard.

Fleming Wildcat players on the 1990-91 basketball squad are Duane Dobbins, Todd Wisdom, Matt Monroe, Eric Barkley, Jeff Brekel, Greg Brekel, Brian Heaton, Chris Mari, Jerry Hershfeldt, Cory Carwin, Marvin Pemberton, Dan Hershfeldt, David Whitmore, Frank Lousberg, and Leroy Hobbs. Ken Albertson is head coach.

Obituary: Vernon Leslie Biesemeier, Littleton, 65, Nov. 15.

Members of the Haxtun kindergarten class visited the Herald office: Kyle Wilson, Nathan Wagner, Braden Ham, Travis Hofmeister, Ryan Wernsman, Stephanie Harms, Russell Hofmeister, Jennifer Hellman, Joshua Watson, Tacy Knight, Diana Fecht, Adam Walter, Matthew Everitt, and Greg Fetzer. The classes were accompanied by instructor Nancy Romine and assistant Debbie Wolff.

Fleming Lady Wildcat basketball squad for the 1990-91 season includes Candace Mekelburg, Jennifer Miles, Jennifer Miller, Laura Brace, Erin Carwin, Kendra Koehler, Blake Kelley, Molly Felzien, Stephanie Rigel, and Mitzi Morris. Head coach is Leo Mekelburg.

Devin Newth and Connie Howard have been selected as artists of the month for November at Haxtun High School. Devin is in his third year of art and Connie is in her fourth.

Local residents have decisions to make on where to fill prescriptions after the recent closing of Barnes Pharmacy in Sterling. Barnes Pharmacy serviced many patients in the Haxtun and Fleming area for years but closed its retail sales on Friday, Dec. 3 after patient files were sold to Walgreen's.

The Town of Fleming purchased the community center from the VFW for $1. Since then, the Town has painted the inside and outside of the building, put in new floors and replaced two doors as well as updated some of the electrical lines.
