William F. Bock, a Yuma County farmer, has realized a satisfactory profit from a $2.55 investment in hogs. While marketing some sales last week, Mr. Bock said that in the fall of 1934, he had a cream check for $2.55. Fifteen sow pigs were bought with his check, 12 head at 15 cents each and three head at 25 cents each. It will be recalled that 1934 was a drought year when a scarcity of feed occurred. Mr. Bock did not have any grain; but as he was milking some cows, he had skimmed milk. The pigs were raised on milk that year. Every year since 1934, Mr. Bock has marketed $2,000 worth of hogs. He now has on hand, including pigs, 273 head of hogs, all from a $2.55 investment.

Every year, the third Saturday in September marks a special day in Fleming with the return of Fall Festival. For many years, Carl and Alice Cheramy spent time organizing the celebration and making sure things ran smoothly - but this year things will be different. Instead of being in the background on Saturday, Sept. 21, the Cheramy's will lead the parade as the 2013 Fleming Fall Festival Grand Marshals.
