Pres., Carmen dela Rambelje, Secretary, Kevin Fetzer, Treasurer, and Laurie Anderson, alternate. Ready to take off to D.C. June 17, 1936

Frank Montgomery, prominent druggist, one of Haxtun's leading business men for over 20 years, passed away at his home here Sunday morning, June 13, 1936.

Forty-eight veterans at Haxtun received government baby bonds this week in payment of the World War bonus provided during the present session of Congress. According to officers of the American Legion, the total bonus payment to veterans here will amount to $26,000, or an average of slightly over $500 for each man.

Highland Center News - Cline Barkey is pulpit supply paster at the Presbyterian church at Paoli Sunday morning.

No. County Line News - Arthur Ahnstedt had a horse to kick a tongue on the godig, breaking it and run a big sliver its hoof. He had a veterinarian come out to cut it out as the animal was suffering quite badly.

Bryant News - Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lundgren and baby called at the Dick Salvador home Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Salvador and children were Haxtun visitors Saturday night.

Midway News - Mrs. Ruby Jones is visiting with her sister, Mrs. Chase Meakins, for a few days.

June 20, 1951

Rose Leuth and Walter McClain were quietly married Thursday afternoon at the Brethren Church with Rev. Leonard Birkin, pastor of the church, officiating.

Dean Garret, fishing in the Kingsley dam reservoir with James Stauffer and J.W. Miller, is the champion fisherman of Haxtun for the week with a channel cat that weighed slightly over 12 pounds.

Fleming News - Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kinzie, Jr. report the birth of a daughter, Debra Lynne, on June 14 in a Sterling hospital.

The old Haxtun jail was wrecked this week to make more room available on the town lots for the erection of a new fire hall. The old cement structure, about eight feet square and six feet high, looked more like an incinerator than a jail house and was seldom used in recent years.

During the Depression years the jail was often the overnight lodging place for transient unemployed person, providing sleeping quarters for two in the cell blocks in the structure. A new jail will be built into the new fire hall should the town officials see need of a jail in the community.

June 17, 1976

Monday brought back memories to many Haxtun residents of the Dust Bowl days of the "dirty thirties" or at least the dry years of the early 1950s as a howling west wind filled the air with dust.

Paoli residents are inviting everyone to their second annual Paoli Day on Saturday, June 19. Dedication of the new tennis courts and basketball goals will be held after the picnic supper. A square dance called by Nate Skeels will be held on the tennis court.

Fleming News - Friends of Joe Koehler moved into his fields Monday and did his field work. Koehler is in the Weld County Hospital undergoing a series of operations for injuries he received from a tractor accident at his home. Those assisting in the work included Leroy Pyle, Lawrence Brekel, Jerry Wernsman, Kay Morison and son Brian Morison, Larry Barkley, Leslie Smith, Howard Schmidt, Wilfred Wisdom and Ellis Schmidt.

June 20, 1991

The body of George Edwards, the oldest retired fireman in Haxtun, was taken to the cemetery in the antique fire truck. Accompanying him on his last ride were Jim Freemyer, driver; Rev. Roy Pfaltzgraff; Wilbur Lightsey, Keith Gilliland, Darrell Smith, Bob Tracy, Delbert Johnson and Larry Orth, pallbearers, who rode along the sides.

Thirteen area teenagers suffered injuries as a result of auto accidents in a 13-day period that began on June 4 and ended June 17, according to reports by the Colorado State Patrol. Involved in accidents: Katrina Crawford, 15; Julie Ryles, 19; Traelen Booher, 16, with passengers Adrienne Zetterquist, 13, Melissa Bradley, 11, Glenn Donaldson, 14, and Jason Carson, 14; Misty Jo Ocken, 16, with passengers Jill R. Young, Michael R. Newth, Kori L. Smith, Melanie R. Graham and Ben M. Absmeier, all 14.

Randy and Susan Kurtzer of Haxtun are the parents of Elizabeth Barbara, born June 8, 1991 at Sterling Regional Medical Center.

Fleming baseball players earning All-Conference for the 2011 season were: Tyler Vandenbark, Tanner Serrato, Casey Henry and Steven Asfeld. Justin Stone and Daniel Martinez earned All-Conference, Honorable Mention.

Haxtun and Fleming baseball players returned to the diamond, this time as teammates, in the 1A and 2A All-State baseball game played at Machebeuf High School in Denver on June 9. Fleming's Justin Stone and Haxtun's Trenton Ham played in the contest.

Local football players Trenton Ham, Haxtun, and Justin Stone, Fleming, played in the 6-8 man All-State football game on June 4 at La Junta High School. The two played for the north team, who won the game over the south. Both are 2011 graduates.
