The Sedgwick County/Fleming Wrestling team traveled to Oxford, Neb. to participate in the Southern Valley Invitational. The team finished in seventh place out of 21 teams. The team put in a good 12 hours of wrestling on the 10th of December.

106-pound sophomore Kaiden Schelling finished his day with a record of 4-1 and in second place. Kaiden defeated Coleman Chism (Waunita-Palisade) with a fall in :22. He then defeated Brody Epp (York) with a fall in :23. He lost his next match to Braxton Hammond (Southern Valley) by fall. Schelling then defeated Gavin Patterson (Wilcox Hildreth) by a 17-2 tech fall. In his final match of the day he defeated Grady Dempcy (Sutherland) with a fall in 1:17.

Freshman Scotty Engle finished his day 4-0 and the 113-pound Champion. Engle defeated Kyler Carraher (Franklin) with a fall in 1:21. He then defeated Luke Harper (Sutherland) by fall in :54. Engle's next match was against Aiden Piel (Red Cloud-Blue Hill) with a 13-5 major decision. He then defeated Blake Devitt (Hitchcock County) in the championship match by fall in 1:44.

120-pound freshman Gage Helgoth finished his day 1-4 and in 12th place. Helgoth was defeated by Ayden Berney (Centura) and Kaleb Christofferson (Hitchcock County) by fall. He then defeated Ashton Kring (Axtell) with a fall in 3:12 and lost his next two matches to Rowan Jarosik (South Central Unified) and Tony Lyon (Perkins County) by fall.

At 145 pounds, sophomore Keegan Colglaizer ended his day at 3-2 and in 10th place. Colglazier defeated Gavin Losey (Hitchcock County) by a fall in 5:21. He then lost to Quinn Bertand (Axtell) by fall before defeating Ryker Copeland (Sutherland) by fall in 3:41. He then defeated Lorance Davis (Franklin) with a fall in 3:20 and lost his final match to Brennen Pfannenstiel (Norton Community) by fall.

Sophomore Joshua Wright competed at 152 pounds. He finished 1-2 and in 17th place. Wright was defeated by Juan Ruiz (Chase County and Tristian White (Arapahoe) by fall. He then defeated Same Bantam (Southern Valley) with a fall in 2:12.

160-pound freshman Ryan Davis finished 3-1 and in 15th place. Davis was defeated by Brett Smith (Norton Community) 11-7, Dalten Hagan (Hitchcock County) 6-0, and Eli Pistulka (Wilcox Hildreth), 7-2. He then defeated Harley Gray (Medicine Valley) with a fall in 2:41.

Sr. Hayden Burr finished his day 5-0 and the 170 lb. Champion. Hayden defeated Hayden Anderson (Sutherland) with a fall in 2:21, Nate Grili (Southern Valley) with a fall in 2:14, Josh Popp (Atwood-Rawlins Co) with a fall in 1:43 and Seth Erickson (York) 10-0. This win put him in the championship match against Alek Molzahn (Alama). Hayden defeated Alek with a fall in :59.

The team is scheduled to travel to Wray on Saturday, Dec. 18 to participate in the Bob Smith Invitational. This will be their final competition before Christmas break. Matches are set to begin at 9:15 a.m.
