Sept. 8, 1937

The Rev. C.E. Douhan, 91, died at hiis home in the Fairfield community Sunday, Sept. 5. He and his wife had made their home on a farm one mile north of the Fairfield church for the past 17 years.

The young son and baby daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grover Clark were overcome by monoxide gas at the Clark home early Monday morning. The children were taken outdoors and the doctor was called. They were revived in a short time. The gas was escaping from a gasoline heater attached to a hot water tank in the kitchen.

Mrs. John Nell announces that she will open a ladies' ready-to-wear store in the building recently vacated by Dr. J.W. Kinzie on the east side of Colorado Avenue.

Sept. 10, 1952

Letter from Keith L. Sharpe, Korea: Through volunteer labor, we have laid water pipe and electrical power to the buildings (of an orphanage for 60-75 children). Also have built bathtubs out of oil drums, which they build a fire under. My work with the Air Wing is in the G-3 or operations section. It involves a lot of map work and the briefing and debriefing of pilots, plus assisting in compiling information for a daily briefing of the Commanding General.

Fleming News - Three new teachers: Al Fritzler, Windsor, vocational agriculture; Willard Rees, White Water, Wisc., science; Mrs. Stonuey, Sterling, home economics. The second grade teacher, Miss Beverly Lefforge, has returned as Mrs. Roy Ingmire.

Cpl. Raymond A. Pimple, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Pimple of Fleming, recently completed six months' service with the 7th Infantry Division on the sweltering central front in Korea.

Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Kennedy are the parents of a baby girl born Friday. The little miss weighed five pounds two ounces and was named Patricia Lynn.

Sept. 8, 1977

On Friday, the Paoli Town Board of Trustees approved the issuance of $40,000 in general obligation bonds to finance a new water system for the town.

Warren Bogaert took over the management of the Haxtun Coop Stations and store Tuesday. He and his wife Rubydell have one son, Quinton.

Miss Joan Zmina of Greeley and Larry Myers, Haxtun, exchanged nuptial vows Saturday afternoon, Aug. 20.

Rhonda and Rita Potter were guests of the Senior Citizens' supper group on Thursday, presenting the program for the evening.

Leo Mekelburg carded a 116 at the first annual F&H men's open golf tournament held Sunday, capturing both the championship and medalist honors. He turned in scores of 37, 39 and 40.

Rockland News - Jack and Betty Dix hosted a birthday dinner at their home Monday for Merlin Sherwood. Other guests: Mr. and Mrs. Doug Dix, Becky and Mark, and Mrs. David McClain, Crissa and Michael.

Sept. 9, 1992

Kristina Kaye Larsen and Kenneth Winston Ham, both of Holyoke, exchanged wedding vows in a western-motif ceremony on June 13, 1992.

Death: Jack Maurice Saylor, 62, Midway, British Columbia, Sept. 2, 1992.

The Colorado Department of Highways announced that the County Express has been awarded $107,700 in Section 17 funds from the Federal Transit Administration for 1993.

Sept. 5, 2012

Not only did Haxtun School District earn the highest accreditation ranking from the Colorado Department of Education but two elementary classes also received news that they scored extremely high on Transitional Colorado Assessment Program tests or more commonly known as CSAPs.
