Bulldogs earn post-season honors at the conclusion of fall sports

The amount of Bulldog athletes on the All Conference list from the 2022 fall sports season is a true testament to the successes of this year's football and volleyball teams. Nine members of this year's 11-1 football team and three players on the 13-12 volleyball team earned post season All-Conference honors by vote of coaches from the Lower Platte Valley League. Below is a list of all 12 players and stand out stats from their 2022 seasons.

Haxtun Volleyball

Junior Cassidy Goddard and sophomore Bobbi Starkebaum received All-Conference honors while junior teammate Megan Walker was named All-Conference, Honorable Mention.

Goddard, a middle hitter, played in 85 sets this season. She registered 189 kills for a .155 hitting percentage. Goddard also netted 28 solo blocks at the net and contributed in another 13. She also sent 30 aces over the net from behind the serve line.

Starkebaum, the varsity's other starting middle hitter, put down 235 kills for a .179 hitting percentage. In her 85 sets this season, she registered 63 total blocks including 47 solo blocks at the net. She tallied 29 aces in the serving department.

Walker, an outside hitter, registered 137 kills this season. In the 85 sets she starred in, she earned a .101 hitting percentage while netting 14 total blocks. In the back row, she tallied 269 digs. From behind the service line, she sent over 49 aces in her junior year.

The 2022 Lady Bulldogs earned a spot in the 1A Regional playoff bracket and met up with Loveland Classical and Kit Carson in the first round of post-season play. Haxtun took down Loveland Classical but fell to Kit Carson, finishing the Lady Bulldog's season just one week shy of the State Volleyball Tournament.

Michael Gerk, Maclin Tempel, Jake Tori, Kyle Fryrear, Kailin Kelley and Ryland Wolff were all named All-Conference players from this year's Bulldog football team. Gehrig Thompson, Keegan Colglazier and Kaiden Schelling received All-Conference, Honorable Mention honors for their part on the team.

Running back Gerk earned 1,613 yards on the ground for an average of 10.5 yards per carry in his senior season. He averaged 134.4 yards per game. Gerk racked up 24 touchdowns throughout the season. Throughout his time as a Bulldog, Gerk rushed for a total of 3,621 yards and earned another 1,160 in the air for a total of 4,781 offensive yards. On the opposite side of the ball, he racked up 296 tackles.

Tempel, a defensive end and a guard, registered 88 tackles including 37 solo as a senior for an average of eight tackles per game. He also tallied 16 sacks in 2022. In his four years on the field for the Bulldogs, he earned 145 total tackles including 61 solo. He averaged 6.6 tackles per game in his four season with Haxtun. Tempel registered a career high of 24 sacks.

Tori, a senior guard, played in all 12 games of the 2022 season. He earned seven solo tackles while registering 30 total tackles for an average of 2.5 tackles per game. In his four year career with the Bulldogs, he played in 31 games, registering 55 total tackles including 11 solo tackles and one sack.

Senior Fryrear, a wide receiver and outside linebacker, earned a total of 480 receiving yards in 2022. He averaged 30 yards per catch and 48 yards per game. This year along, he netted seven total touchdowns for the Haxtun team. As a Bulldog, Fryrear registered 1,115 receiving yards on 46 catches. Throughout his four years, he scored 29 touchdowns for the Bulldogs.

Kelley, a junior running back and middle linebacker rushed for 989 yards this season for an average of 10.5 yards per carry. He scored 14 rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdowns this season. He also racked up 149 total tackles.

Wolff, the Bulldog's quarterback, completed 62 passes ;for a total of 1,379 yards and 11 passing touchdowns. On the ground, he registered 1,444 yards for an average of 12.6 yards per carry. Wolff also scored 20 rushing touchdowns for the Bulldogs in 2022.

Thompson, a senior guard, registered three solo and 12 assisted tackles this season. He also carried the ball twice, one of which resulted in a Bulldog touchdown. In his four years on the Bulldog football team, Thompson tallied 59 total tackles including 14 solo. He also came up with two fumble recoveries.

Kaiden Schelling

Tight end and defensive end Colglazier earned a total of 158 yards in his junior season with the Bulldogs. He averaged 19.8 yards per catch. Colglazier tallied two touchdowns this season. On defense, he totaled 106 tackles and three sacks.

Schelling, a wide receiver and running back, caught three passes for 64 yards. On the ground, he carried the ball three times for 27 yards. Schelling also registered 58 total tackles including 27 solo. In his junior year, he came up with seven interceptions.

This year's Bulldog team went undefeated in the regular season earning the Lower Platte League Championship. The team went 11-1 coming up just short of the State Championship game with a disappointing loss to Simla in the semifinals.
