April 27, 1938

A variety of weather, including rain, wind and dust storms, was experienced in the Haxtun region this week, with two to seven inches of moisture falling. During the wind storm here, Tuesday evening, a tornado struck a schoolhouse near Oshkosh, Neb., killing three children and injuring two others.

Billy, Leroy Hielscher, infant son of Mr. and Mrs., William Hielscher, passed away at the home of his parents four miles southwest of Haxtun last Sunday. He was four months and one day old.

James B. Ghent, 53, former businessman of Haxtun, passed away Monday, April 25, 1983 at a hospital in Denver. He was formerly manager of the Haxtun Mill and Elevator and served as mayor from 1930 until 1932, being a councilman for six years.

April 29, 1953

Hospital News - Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wodas are the parents of a son, Darrell Duane, born Sunday, April 26, 1953.

Fleming News - The tree-planting project of the general science class is progressing well. They have planted 50 junipers and 50 Chinese elms as a windbreak around the first and second grade area on the north of the main school. Trees have been provided by the Soil Conservation Service.

Fairfield News - Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Lundberg attended morning services here Sunday morning. Lyle has just returned from Korea and is making his home in Julesburg.

April 27, 1978

Engagement: Karie Lynne Anderson to Larry Ross Wilson. An early summer wedding as planned.

Russell Kinzie, and Doug Whittaker of Haxtun captured first place finishes Saturday at the Yuma Junior Olympics wrestling tournament.

The familiar train depot located beside the railroad tracks in Fleming was moved earlier this week to a new location in the west part of Fleming.

Rockland News - Chad Fix and Max Fetzer joined the other seniors on sneak over the weekend.

Fleming News - Mr. and Mrs. Frank McDaniel attended church in Haxtun Sunday. Their grandson Kevin was in the junior choir that furnished special music. They were guests in the Dick McDaniel home honoring the April 25 birthdays of son Dick and grandson Kevin.

April 28, 1993

Arbor day observed: Haxtun mayor Gay McDaniel displays the Tree City USA symbol to the crowd as state forester Joel Stewart looks on. Sara Lundgren reads a piece to Arbor Day observers. She is part of Torri Lutz's fourth grade class at Haxtun. Tree board president George Michael plants one of two trees given as a gift from the recycling project at the entrance to the Gun Club Lake.

Lindsey Firme has been selected artist of the month for April at Haxtun school. Her winning project is a tempera painted mask with fur edging.

Fleming's prom royalty: Queen Adrianna Bricknell and King Harry Harms.

Alvin Schumann of Haxtun converted the 7–10 split at Starlite Lanes in Chappell, Neb. in February.

15 students from the State of Colorado still on stage at Dobson Arena in Vail last week as their names were called to represent the Future Business Leaders of America as state officers for the coming year. Fleming's Zac Copeland is the top of those 15 and will lead the Colorado FBLA as president and Haxtun's Allison Schaefer was chosen as a District Four Vice President.

The Fleming Wildcats closed out their regular season play last week with six games in four days. The group played over half their 2013 schedule last week to meet district tournament deadlines following postponements due to weather. Over the past week they added six wins to their record to close out the season at 10-1.
