Tommy Glenn Thompson, the son of Maurice Glenn Thompson and Effie Bernice (Colglazier) Thompson, passed away in Haxtun on Dec. 14, 2023 at the age of 87. He was born June 11, 1936 on the George Heginbotham ranch his father had leased six and a half miles south and a half mile west of Holyoke. He attended grade school at Prairie Gem for four years until it closed and then he went to Holyoke for one year. The Lady Bulldogs wrapped up the pre-season schedule with the annual Holiday Tournament at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling last week. The Bulldogs took third place in Northeastern Junior College’s annual Holiday Tournament last week. Haxtun wrapped up the first half of the season and will be on Christmas break until the team returns to the court the first week in January. Tournament play opened on Thursday as the Haxtun Bulldogs faced off with the Eagles from Dayspring Christian Academy. The Fleming Lady Wildcats went 2-0 last weekend at their annual Winter Hoops Tournament. The Lady Wildcats hosted Arickaree, Gilpin County and Flagler for Friday/Saturday action on the court. Last weekend's wins put them at 2-3 on the season. On Friday, the Lady Wildcats defeated Flagler to open the tournament. Fleming took a 51-22 win in that contest.
