June 3, 1936

North Rockland News - Quite a few from this community attended the circus in Sterling Saturday.

Dailey News - Mrs. Pearl McIntyre, Arline, and June Aleda and Elmer Schroeder were Sterling shoppers on Tuesday.

Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Prouty and son Floyd vistited with friends in Sterling Memorial Day.

Haxtun markets: wheat, 70 cents; corn, 57 cents; hens, heavy, 14 cents; springs, colored, 15 cents; springs, Leghorn, 12 cents; eggs, 15 cents; cream, 24 cents; butterfat, in milk, 28 cents.

Withdrawal of two buses and a slight change in train schedule were announced by the Burlington lines this week. In the future there will only be two buses operating through here with a westbound bus at 4:15 a.m. each day and an eastbound bus at 6:15 o'clock in the evening. Following the floods of last summer, officials of the Burlington, routed all carriers over Highway No. 6. Since repairs have been made, it was decided to resume regular bus service on the former main route.

70 Years Ago

June 6, 1951

A June frost nipped the tender garden plants and the tops of early planted corn in the Haxtun country Friday and Saturday mornings of the past week. Rain fell locally. Denver received snow during the weekend storm and Laramie, Wyo., was covered by more than a foot of snow during the storm Saturday.

Robert Rasmussen and Marvin Holstein were enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on Tuesday, May 29, in Denver. After being sworn in, the boys were flown to Lackland Air Force base in San Antonio, Texas, for eight weeks basic training.

Fleming News - New officers for the coming year for the Priscilla Club are president, Mrs. W.E. Giften; vice president, Mrs. Elmer McPherron; secreatry, Mrs. John Morison; treasurer, Mrs. Wilbur Cox; sunshine, Mrs. Ed. Chapin; library board, Mrs. Jess Winemiller and Mrs. A.H. Ahnstedt.

A tent theatre featuring Brunk's Comedians will stage a three-night run at Haxtun beginning Monday. The show features vaudeville, singers, dancers, and musicians, all at popular admission prices.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Loveland for Pfc. Arnold D. Culp, who was killed in the Korean War Sept. 27, 1950. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin C. Culp, formerly of Haxtun.

June 3, 1976

Doug Lick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Lick, will leave June 16 from Denver to attend the National Leadership Conference of Future Business Leaders of America at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C. Doug won top honors in data processing in the state contest in April.

Fleming News - Rev. and Mrs. Dennis Sillaman will be honored with a farewell dinner in the Fleming United Methodist Church Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Otto Swedlund were honored by their family at a reception Sunday for their 60th wedding anniversary, in the parlors of the Fleming United Methodist Church. During the afternoon the Swedlunds' grandsons, Terry Swedlund, Brad Swedlund, Tim Swedlund, and Denny Swedlund, entertained with banjo, guitars and singing.

Marriage licenses: Lynn Paul Seger, Haxtun, and Cynthia Kay Hardy, Arriba; Randall D. Firme, Haxtun, and Lynda May Oliver, Holyoke.

First birthday: Amanda Marie Seger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Seger of Denver, celebrated her first birthday May 17.

June 6, 1991

Gena Miller is pictured with her carousel horse, a prize for raising the most funds at the Blue Skies Ride-a-Thon. Miller raised $1,800.50, with most of her donations pledged from the Haxtun, Fleming and Dailey areas.

First birthdays: Shaylee Kay Salyards, daughter of Mike and Susan Salyards, Haxtun, celebrated her first birthday on April 7, 1991. Michelle LeAnne King celebrated her first birthday on May 24, 1991. Her parents are John and Denise (Kirkwood) King of Fleming.

Citizens of the future: Austin J., 11 months, son of Phillip and Debbie Geilert; Joe, 7, and Jon, 3, sons of Brent and Patty Jeffers; Shannon, 13, daughter of Karen Gutka; Daniel, 11, and Matthew, 9, sons of Dennis and Elena Firme; Whitney, 3 months, daughter of Brian and Cindy Kipp; Jeremiah, 7 months, son of Todd and Cammie Smith; Zac, 14, and Zeb. 10, sons of Sandy Lambert.

Mountain Railroad band members Joe Bivins, Brian Duckworth, Stacy Tempel and Keith Hudiburgh perform "God Bless America" at the annual Memorial Day ceremony at the Haxtun Cemetery Monday morning. Legion Commander Duane Hutt led the ceremony and thanked his fallen comrades for their sacrifices. Chaplain Phil Hart and Sergeant of Arms Roland Barkey led roll call before activities wrapped up with more songs from Mountain Railroad.

The Haxtun Booster Club honored Van Liufau as a Super Booster last week during the final athletic award night of the year. Van moved to Haxtun in 1964 and has been active within the school system as well as Bulldog athletics.
