March 16, 1938

Kenneth Lyle Alberts, 9-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Alberts of Paoli, passed away Saturday morning at his home. The little boy had suffered poor health during the greater part of his lifetime.

Overcome by escaping fumes from a hot water heater, Dr. and Mrs. W.E. Mooney and son Kenneth, became violently ill at their home here Saturday evening. Those stricken were received by nurses at the Mooney hospital. The hot water heater used gasoline as fuel.

Miss Iris McIntyre of Dailey and Mr. Siebert Olson of Haxtun announced to their friends this week that they were secretly married on Jan. 22. The marriage took place at the Methodist parsonage in Kimball, Neb., at 5:15 o'clock in the evening.

The Misses Mary Stewart and Catherine Kennedy visited during the weekend at Frederick. Other teachers who made weekend excursions were Mrs. Jeannette Birch and Evangeline Mooney, who visited in Greeley, and Miss Grace Good, who went to Boulder.

March 18, 1953

An incident came to light recently, when an old still, complete with copper tubing, and all the other gadgets, was found under the house on an old Straus farm south of town. The house had been sold, and was being moved to Holyoke. When the steel was installed, is a big mystery. The original house had been added to several times, and it was found in a hole under one of the middle rooms.

Fleming News - The Matinee Club held a covered-dish supper and party Saturday at the VFW. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Smith and Mr. and Mrs. C.S. Wardrip were guests. Members and husbands present: Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Wertz, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Rowan, Mr. and Mrs. Chas Harmon, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Rowan, Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Hopkins, Mr. and Mrs., Bob Lippitt, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hulse, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Swedlund, Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Kennedy, Mr. and Mrs. Austin, Bledsoe, Mr. and Mrs. Ora Kinzie, Mr. and Mrs. Laddie Burton.

Paoli News – L.A. Waterman of Haxtun is now employed at the Co-op Oil Company. He will operate the tank wagon.

March 16, 1978

Jacob Stieb, the new Haxtun Postmaster, was sworn in last week by Dawn Bowman, Section Manager from Boulder. Stieb, a native of Sterling, has been involved with the Postal Service since 1956.

Jeri Anderson and Pat Anderson have purchased the Knit and Stitch Shop and The Workshop in Haxtun and have named their business The Wearhouse. They plan to move into the building that formerly housed AF grocery. The businesses were formally owned by Arlee Nelson.

John Cloud, 7, spent at least part of his spring break from school shoveling snow in front of Bamford Realty, where his mother Carolee Cloud works.

Members of the Haxtun Development Group Housing Committee traveled to Denver to collect a trophy won through cleanup efforts in 1971. Members were Vernon Dix, Zelma Wilson Cantonwine, and Dorothy and John Spanjer.

Russell Kinzie, a senior at McPherson College, will travel with a college concert choir as it makes its annual tour through Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri and Kansas. Russell is a 1988 graduate of Haxtun High School.

The Haxtun Community Center building located in downtown Haxtun is badly in need of a new roof. Haxtun Senior Citizens are sponsoring a pancake supper on Thursday with proceeds going toward the new roof.

On Friday, March 15 the Pueblo Police Department held a press conference regarding 22-year-old missing Kelsie Schelling.

The Fleming Wildcat basketball team won the 2013 1A Colorado State Consolation Championship on Saturday, March 16 at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield.
